Issues Blowing Up At The Tornado Open

The WPBA used to have a policy where if you paid your entry fee and had to cancel, they would refund your entry if they were able to fill the spot. If not, you wouldn't get your money back and your name would remain on the chart. I think that's the most fair way to do things. Nobody would question that type of policy.

She needs to refund that man his entry or she is stealing, IMO.

Gotta wonder if there aren't others.

Unfortunamente, pool has a long sad history of ill prepared promoters who do not no how to run a big event, then get into trouble and screw it up. AND THAT explanation is giving them the benefit of the doubt in spite of what often looks like ill intent.

IMO, if a promoter is going to come here and promote their event, then they should also be prepared to pull on their big girl panties (no-sexism there, I would have used the same for a male promoter) and come here and address post-tournament issues. You can't just have it one way.

On the job training is never fun.

Why don't these "sanctioning bodies" have some type of promoter program to guide promoters?

There is no school on managing pool tournaments.

No money.

That's usually the answer to all questions related to pool.

Sounds like a volunteer effort pro players might look into.

Standards for operations at pool events and rules for obnoxious fans at pool events.

I'd love to see a pro player, single a loud fan out, then have them ejected and banned from the event for the day.

I'd love seeing Earl yell at someone and then get them kicked out.

Second on the list would be Johnny Archer politely having someone get kicked out.

Third is a tie for Mika or Thorsten just pointing because of the "accent"

Running a big event, whether a pool tournament or something else, is no joke. It takes forethought, planning, education, experience, good judgement, manpower, money, and attention to detail.

You tell me how common those are in one package in the world of pool.

Just like getting better at pool, it takes time and dedication. There are bound to be foul ups.

Usually -- when you are attempting to get better at pool -- you are just sacrificing your own dough.

Once it becomes a matter of hundreds of other people's dough you better learn quick or you have, well, what appears to have happened in this case.

I don't believe it's satire, at least for some players.

In a TAR podcast, Corey spoke about how he had been broke sometimes as a pool player, but he loved the lifestyle. He was happy that he had never had a day job in his life.

Grady Mathews spoke may times about blowing money. He only half jokingly said he and some other players were not comfortable until they had blown their money.

Even Justin Collett has spoken about this. During the commentary of TAR 20 he said he was pretty much broke at the time, but he enjoyed traveling and meeting so many interesting people. He liked it more than the previous factory job he had for years.

None of this is putting pool players down; it's just a lifestyle choice some make.

Wonder how many of the players have stiffed others ? One famous player has children but isn't with their mother. See him running all over the country playing pool , nice clothes , new chicks , i'd bet he hasn't and isn't paying child support because he isn't making enough money.I could be wrong but where is the money at in pool to support this . You can't finish mid pack in tournaments and make a living.

JD,

No offense but what people like you will never understand is that poolplayers want to and do enjoy living by their wits, without resorting to work.

They love being broke, they loving finding a woman to take care of them like their momma did, they love sleeping in their cars, they love being bums, they love the entire lifestyle.

If you gave every player at this tournament $100,000 they would take it to a casino and lose it all. They would not put it in a bank account. They love being broke. Money is a problem for them.

Once this is understood all else is clear.

Wow! Is this satire or sarcasm? Humor doesn't carry in text unless you really know what you're doing.

This post absolutely cannot be serious.

Try as I might I just couldn't fool you.

Its because lousy fans that don't support events that paid huge for players.

Events sponsored by generous promoters like Justin Collett, aka JCIN.

Its those snobbish and lousy fans that don't want to support the industry leaders that help players.

Let's bring back TAR. Maybe TAR cross promotions with Viv for women's only matches.

Really sad

Have to feel sorry for the players and everyone who struggles to survive on such little opportunity. I don't personally know Vivian but I do know she is a great player who probably was trying to do something for the game we all love. You wouldn't believe how hard it is as a tournament promoter and director, I owned Racketeers in the New Orleans suburbs and had some enormous bar table tournaments where every single penny advertised went back to the players including 100% of the huge calcuttas, yet at the end of every tournament I was having to put some big name players on a bus with a $100 because they were broke and had to way to get home or survive. Of course no won EVER paid e back a penny as that is the nature of players vs. promoters. The U.S. Open nine ball tournament, one of the oldest and best attended tournaments in the Country has forever had trouble with making payouts so for those that are thinking promoters are making a killing you are dead wrong. Tony Chohan is my good friend and I sincerely hope his new tour is successful but he will encounter some problems. Pool needs a savior, a huge corporation that is willing to lose huge sums for a few years promoting pool like Camel attempted, until that happens don't quit your day job. I know most of the players fairly well and hope the day comes when you guys make the same as the golfers and other sports but it will not happen real soon. C.J. Wiley has worked hard at coming up a system that will appeal to the masses and I very sincerely hope he is correct. God Bless you guys, keep your heads up !!!

I have been half following the situation in Florida. Its a real shame.

I think Vivian was trying to do the right thing. But I will agree that the event 'seemed' to be a little rough around the edges last year.

No way to follow the matches and difficult to see scores and payouts etc.

This is the 2016. There are a lot of ways to handle the information and to have a good staff. But for 'the love of the game' - use qualified people/companies to run the show.

Remember the problem at the Galveston, Texas event a few years ago?

Players need to be respected - they also need to be respectful. But what is happening is that too few players will compete on 9' tables. The truth is that the 9' game is becoming less and less feasible.

Embrace FargoRate - it will establish who can and should play in events. It will (as the information gets more seasoned) give a better product and hopefully help establish some credibility into the game.

Just remember, that every mis-step makes it that much harder on the legitimate promoter.

Here is some interesting information. Attached please see the top 7 females and the top 7 males--by Fargo Ratings-- entered in the Tornado events.

All 14 of these players finished in the top 12 or their respective events!
