Issues with cutoms/lost cue

For the first time I traded cues with a nice person over seas. All went well with my cue showing up there, but the cue I was supposed to get is AWOL after clearing customs in JFK/NY (not shipped with Priority). The tracking number is good, and it works online, but the cue has been lost for 9 days after being released from customs?!

After having a real sweet conversation with the USPS (no friggin help!) I am now becoming worried!

Any of you folks have any experience with anything like this?

thanks, Gerry

Hang in there I think it probly will show. I have had the same experience and they finally arrived. Some real fast and others slower. Good Luck!

Yes, I have had the same experience twice recently. I made a trade with Si in the U.K. and the cues I sent him arrived quickly. The cue he sent me took about five weeks to arrive. I don't know where it was, but it eventually arrived in perfect condition.

I also won a raffle and the cue was sent from Asia. It took several weeks to arrive, but finally arrived in good condition. It's frustrating, but my bet is you will get the cue eventually.

I know customs is getting pretty slow. My wife is from Australia & it takes a while to get stuff more so then before. Funny thing is we have tracked it & it goes through fast on the ozzie's end but once it hits our customs it is slow as he**. Probably setting in a room somewhere until they decide to take a break from donuts & actually send it.

The primary issue with customs and cues have been mostly with cues that have ivory in them. If this cue did not have any, then I don't see why there would be an issue. Just give it some time, it'll eventually show up!

Oliver sent me some cues from England that made in to California in seven days, via Royal Mail/USPS. Last November, USPS took 17 days to deliver a small package from 200 miles away, but last month a shipment from the same area took less than 24 hours. I guess it's the luck of the draw.

My package from Singapore took 8 days to arrive here in California via SingaporePost/USPS AirMail. No hangups there.

When Joss sent me my cue it took 8 weeks to get to me here in Iraq. Talk about being worried I thought i was out 4200. I had to have it sent to an APO shipping Comany what a mess. But im sure you will get your cue

When shipping cues to and from the U.S., I only use UPS or FedEx. Yes it's pricey, but it's worth it considering that their tracking website is refreshed several times during the day. I've experience delivery delays of a day or two but that's about it. 5-7 days is usually all it takes

I know a similar effect: When a package from USPS gets into Germany and is handed over to customs, the USPS-tracking system is no longer able to track the package. I need to call german DHL for tracking in Germany.

Have you tried to call USPS about this matter?

Best regards,

Detlev

The only problems that I know of , is a cue with elephant ivory and no certificate for the ivory. It was rejected at NZ customs, as they have a ban on elephant ivory products that do not have a certificate.
I don't deal with ivory and I don't know what kind of certificate is required who issues it.
Otherwise just be patient, it will show up somewhere.
Neil

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The cue is being sent from Austria. The last info I have is that it cleared customs no problem. My guess (hope) is maybe it's sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be moved like some of you said.

USPS told me I can't do anything about it because I'm not the shipper. They told the shipper he has to wait 30 days to start an inquiry

I dunno, I kinda got the feeling it's gone....but after reading these posts.....maybe not.

thanx, Gerry

No problems with cues but I did have a high end guitar go astray for about 3 weeks one time. Shipping from the US to Japan. They found it in a USPS warehouse in Michigan. I finally got it though. I wouldn't stress too much over 9 days. Even though things coming international usually show up within a week to 10 days did you know that the official time for those things is actually 4 to 6 weeks? I wouldn't start sweating just yet.
MULLY
I know how you feel though
