It Looks Like Pool Will Be Changing Soon

When I look in my crystal ball I see high $$$ entry events happening a few times, then when the same dudes win each time....which always happens... the next event the same guys show, but the bottom half of the entries don't "enter" and just match up to battle between themselves.

This is the same theory that happens in "open" local tourneys. A few top guys win each time, the donators (actually hero's of finance) say frig this and gamble with each other. If the second tier players have no incentive, the backers dry up, in short order the event will die. Top heavy payouts draw great players for very short life span of the event.

Obviously need some big sponsor or "sugar daddy" make the numbers jive. Say if there are 1000 tourneys per year in US and each tourney makes average loss of $5K, only need $5 million to sustain whole industry per year.
There are tonnes of pool fans in new young tech rich in Silicon Valley. Most tech firms like Google have pool tables and wannabe pool players. It is the recreational game for young rich techies. To these new rich billionaires like Brin, Page, Zuckerberg, Musk $5 million is pocket change to them. Even average low level worker in newly IPO firm is worth millions $$. Make it into an investment and brand building/marketing thing for those who put up the money. Bring the game and pros "Save Pool" roadshow to Silicon Valley and I am sure they will put together few million $$ to save the pool industry.
:)

Now this I find interesting...
...New market leads :thumb up:
Anyway-
This so called change for pool is no change at all. When an animal is backed into a corner, it will come out fighting. I've waited for the fight from the pool industry, but instead there seems to be more of a step back of holding private quarters.

Plus, what is an invitational event? Don't get it!
When I get invited to a party, I'm not expected to part with $$$$ on entry - I turn up and bring a bottle of wine and perhaps some flowers (cause I'm a classy guy, hehe) to show my gratitude and respect.

There are so many ideas / methods that Pool has yet to explore, but the people with skills are seriously lacking in this industry and those at the top of the pool chain are tightening their grip on what they believe to be theirs... IMO :thumb up:

Change will come for those who seek it.

Great post :thumb up:
Until the day that the whole field receives a decent 'return for their money' pool is just a fart breeze!
There has got to be more in it for the majority. This doesn't need to be money.
Majority rules and always will - otherwise there is guaranteed unrest.

This. How does anyone see any future in the gambling style tournaments? It makes zero sense for anyone but the top three players to enter these. Once the middle tier pros have lost a few times they are down several thousand dollars with nothing to show for it, not even an official ranking. With zero money added it is much better to gamble amongst themselves, at least then they can control the game, get spots etc. Even a top player should be wary of entering these, as there is no guarantee they will place in the money with the depth of talent nowadays.

Such tournaments makes for great entertainment for us enthusiast, but do little to advance the sport.

This Bump goes to you sir

The players giving an hour or more of their time to the league players has to help promote at least the 16 players and maybe it will pump up PPV and a new sponsor or two in the future. At least CSI, Greg from Diamond, and Accu-Stat are making an effort to change things up a bit. I give them all props for taking the bull by the horns. This isn't their first rodeo as far as the pool business goes. All three have started new things and they are still on going. JT

Not going to argue your case here. props to those who go out and just do it..! :thumb up:

I just don't necessarily agree with all the ideas they are presenting.
Time will tell - if it's a success, then we all win!
