It takes a lot of balls to do this

Back in the stone age when I actually worked in a pool room, I would throw 4 trays out on the table for all the benefits Appleton cites. He has the balls layed out in formation. I would just disrtibute them evenly without balls on the rail. You can do any number of drills like this but the one takeaway is consecutive perfect strokes. Every aspect of fundamental pocketing and position will be addressed and uncertainties that plague the learning process will de-materialize. Even if you mostly get stumped, the idea is precision on a complete scale. This drill is the motherlode.

I pick up sets of new balls at the thrift stores for about $15. I tossed 5 sets randomly on my Snooker table. (80 balls). Then I just start pocketing them with 10 to 15 second pass between each shot. Random games. Stripes against solids (white is a stripe, black a solid), etc. Every ball used as a cueball. Alternate shots until either only stripe or solids left. A few other rules.

I don’t do any drills. Just play for fun. Too lazy to set up but boxes of balls on floor beside Table ready to go. I have a basket To collect balls as pockets fill with balls.
