I used to travel so much and played with so many people it all gets conflated from time to time...
I am in a rare minority as far as shots like that. Not saying it was the best solution, but I frequently bypass a runout to play a safety and get ball in hand.I guess I just played what felt right to me at the time, given that I'd over ran position. But I can't argue with your alternative, even though I didn't consider it in the moment. Good call there. I can also add that it was probably certain doom had I not pocketed the 13, which I did know at the time as well. Took a bit of a gamble I reckon. I had watched that guy shoot, new he was a good player, and didn't want him back at the table. So I went with the 13.
Actually, now that I think about it, in that video, Mr. Um came with one of the lowest % kick shots of all time to pocket the 8 and win the game. So I didn't want him kicking either. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can locate his shot. It was amazing.
I missed him calling it, must be a few seconds before the video starts. I would think he'd try for the side where the cue ball is.
I'm sure there are more vids I'll think of in time, but not many. OMG, here's some 14.1 practice from....can't be....16 years agoI am in a rare minority as far as shots like that. Not saying it was the best solution, but I frequently bypass a runout to play a safety and get ball in hand.
See people with 50 runouts or more, whatever it is. I just play to win, and if that means 3 safeties because I don't feel 100% confident I can get out, then I lock it up.
Obvious you play well, for sure one of the better players on here. Kudos to you, was fun watching. Please let me know if you have more videos, I like your style.
Yeah, I didn't catch him calling it, but he must have...I'll review for fun at some point.I missed him calling it, must be a few seconds before the video starts. I would think he'd try for the side where the cue ball is.
Do you see the safety I was talking about? Fanning that ball with some high left on the far right side and then hitting the rail and nuzzling right up against the ball?I'm sure there are more vids I'll think of in time, but not many. OMG, here's some 14.1 practice from....can't be....16 years ago

Yup, I like that idea you came up with. I need to improve my safety play for sure. Honestly, your safe probably has a more reliable outcomeDo you see the safety I was talking about? You don't strike me as "that guy" at all, but I know people and I've been told about others in APA who even on 100% obvious shots, pointing or calling is not good enough, must mark the pocket.Yeah, I didn't catch him calling it, but he must have...I'll review for fun at some point.
Nah, you shot that long shot (I assume it was frozen) so well, that I was like wow, pressure shot, close ball in the path of the shot, and you came out on the + side. I've posted my shooting, but not from matches, just from me either practicing a certain shot, or breaking and trying to run racks.Yup, I like that idea you came up with. For sure not "that guy". I let obvious shots go uncalled and sometimes even not so obvious ones. And I really do try to be the first to compliment my opponent on a win or a shot. I play for the challenge and fun of the game, but also for the camaraderie. I've met lifelong friends playing this game, and wouldn't mind meeting more. You don't strike me as "that guy" at all, but I know people and I've been told about others in APA who even on 100% obvious shots, pointing or calling is not good enough, must mark the pocket.
Had someone a few weeks ago who was a 7 ask if I wanted them to mark the pocket, or just call it, and we both agreed, when you get to a certain level, it becomes disrespectful to make someone call an 8 ball, especially when they played really great runouts to get there.
Yes, it was frozen but I came out ok . I was 100% committed to the shot and run out at that pointNah, you shot that long shot (I assume it was frozen) so well, that I was like wow, pressure shot, close ball in the path of the shot, and you came out on the + side. When playing one of the San Fran Mezz tour stops, me Rodney Morris and someone else, one of the younger players maybe Spencer Ladin were sitting over by Desiree waiting on our next matches and a question comes up on one of the tables. We were playing WPA rules and they were stated before the tourney. Well, this guy comes over and states I made a bank and it was an obvious bank. For sure not "that guy".
