is the clasp broken or reuseable? also you could just remove the whole thing and use a differnt one from a craft store. they have all kinds of clasps and most you can just super glue them on.

You might try asking one of the casemakers as well. They probably have more access to an It's George type latches or may even be willing/able to do the repair work for you. Since It's George cases were revamped and put back in production there is a very good chance that you can get yours fixed up again. Best of luck.

Is it the top or bottom?

The problem is that this latch is no longer made in exactly this way that I can find.

Mike Roberts, the maker of It's George cases is making cases again. I believe that he is closely tied to Omega Billiards and Mike Gulyassy. Either of those two should be able to help you see if Mike is willing or able to repair this case.

If not then you can order similar latches from Ohio Travel Bag.

The upper part of the latch is easy enough to do but the lower part is not.

This is because the interior tube is glued in and the rivets are attached to the exterior tube. What you will need to do is detach the lining and drill out the old rivets clear through both tube walls. Then you will need to rivet the lower half of the latch on through into the cavity that holds the cues. You will need some sort of an anvil or metal bar that you can slip the end of the case over in order to insure that the back of the rivets are perfectly flat and do not protrude into the cue compartment. Otherwise you will damage your cues.

Once that's done you will need to reglue the lining.

Alternatively if you just want a functioning case and don't much care about the appearance then you can take off the old latch and replace it with something like the one below. I used this latch on the GTF cases to solve the problem of replacing them on this style of case. This latch attaches with screws and installs in just a few minutes. I don't know if Ohio Travel Bag carried similar ones but if not then you can always send an email to the folks at GTF and ask them if they would sell you one. sales@gtfcases.com

If you go this route then you only need to file off the tips of the screws in the lid AFTER you put the latch on. Don't do it before hand or you will ruin the screws and they won't get a good grip in the plastic. You don't need to worry about the screw tips on the lower part of the case as they are not long enough to go through both walls. Good luck with the repair.

well said JB, thats pretty much how I fixed mine, but I put the screws in then removed them one at a time and filed the tips off, then put em back in. Worked great.

I can't remember the guys name that use to make those but they are making them again. I have seen them for sale at www.billiardwarehouse.com. You might try getting a hold of Gregg there... he's very good to deal with & I am sure you could send it to the makers for repair.

Thanks for all the great info. Sorry for the long delay in getting back but I have been super busy. I think I will go the craft store route and try that first. I attached a image of the part that is broke. Thanks for you help.

I have a case similar to the one JB showed in the picture where the fellini type latch prongs snapped off. It was apparent that the lower latch itself has some difficulty mechanically opening and closing which may have prompted the prongs to snap off. How much would it cost to replace the latch?

The vacuum fit isn't as snug as it used to be, there are no cracks. Is there a way to improve the fit between the case and the lid so that it is not as loose? Currently with the broken latch, if you tilt the case lid down then the lid will fall off. You still hear the faint distinct sound of the lid separating from the case.

This is a very old 1x2 case, btw.

Sorry Chaz gotta pull rank on you here. This is bad advice about using superglue to attach clasps to cue cases.

Especially an It's George where the the only thing holding the lid on is the clasp.

To the original poster: It's George is making cases again. Find a way to get in touch with them and have them send you the top portion of the clasp and then go to any local luggage repair place and have them rivet the top of the clasp onto the lid.

Adam,

I can contact It's George for you.

Call me on Monday at the shop and give me your information. I will call them and see what's the best thing to do. I don't want to post the phone number as it's not a business number. Right now, the cases are in limited production and they are not always there.

You can also email me if you like at rbunnell@obcues.com
