Freddy, I seem to remember a sign meaning that, "I'm in for half your action." You made the sign by sticking out your two index fingers and laying one across the other making an X. This may have been a "local" sign used by the people in Dallas at the time (early 1960s). The one time I vividly recall the sign being used was when I was beating some stiff and the pool hall bully flashed me the sign. Of course he was just stealing half my score!

Freddy is correct. The signs were backwards. And I am getting toooooo old for this stuff. My bad, thanks Freddy I will correct the photo. I too feel guilty about letting this stuff out but I guess it's OK when you turn the signs around, LOL. It took so long to rig those photos, then I get them turned around. It's got to be senility. These are the correct signs.

Another way to represent that, and declare yourself in with the score is to use the George sign, placing your open hand over your heart. That means, "I'm in!" There are many applications for the George sign.

The Hillbilly Code is a word substitution for numbers 1 to 15. It could be used to tip a player to shoot a certain pool ball or it could be used as a word substitution for playing cards Ace through King. You could tip a guys hand off with it. All I'm going to say.

I've also heard it referred to as the Miner's Code. It was told to me several years ago by our local card cheat/mechanic. According to my source, it goes back to the days when miners would live in these tent cities, with nothing to do in their off time, but play poker. It was more of a novelty thing back when he told me the code. I wish that I would have taken the time to remember the words.
