New to this forum and Im hoping you guys can give some guidance. For xmas im treating myself to a new cue. Ive been using a meuci sneakypete last few years and I seem to play well with it, but i want something new. Im leaning towards the predators.....either regular sneaky or with the metal joint. Im also looking at schons. Ebay has dale perrys here and there with blud and some others.

Im in a small town and I really cant try these out, im just going to have to bite the bullet and buy one. Im tall and I seem to shoot better with a stick with no wrap ( i tend to put my hand at the end of the wrap, where as with my sneaky i put it more at the end of the butt). Should i go for a stick and get a longer shaft? Will predator make a 314 2 inches longer? Lots of questions and i would really appreciate some words of widsom here

Well, i dont know how much your looking to spend, but if your looking at Schons and Predators i guess money isnt much of a factor. You can also look at Jacoby cues also, they have some nice cues for the price. And most company's will make a longer shaft.

And yes for the most part buying a cue is biting the bullet lol, its hit n miss. But alot of the time you just hafta play with the cue for a while before you can really make a judgement on if you like the cue.

But if your going from a Meucci to a schon or predator, your going to get alot stiffer hit on the Schon and predator.

I had a Schon for 4 yrs and then bought a Meucci Original and found that i had a easier time putting english on the cue with the Meucci.

But thats what i noticed.

But between a Schon or Predator or Jacoby if you take a look at them you basically cant go wrong.

Why not get a custom cue that's built a bit longer than normal? If you are not looking for anything fancy, you should be able to get a plain jane or a custom sneaky for $250-$500 depending on what you want.

Going 2 inches in the shaft would be a huge mistake, unless you get a cannon taper. I used a Predator shaft that was only 1/2 inch longer and the thing is noticably whippier. Then again, you use a meucci now, so you might actually like it whippy.

The best way imo would be to increase both the butt and shaft by 1 inch, if you MUST have a 60 inch cue. Even a 59 incher would be significantly longer and should suffice for most taller players.

I agree with sheldon that a custom cuemaker in your area is the best bet for anything under $500. If you budget approaches or surpasses $1000, then there are a plethora of options in custom cues available, from all corners of the country, and that's a different thread altogether.

I picked up a dzuricky sneaky this week and really like it. Hits quite nicely, and the price was good at 240 or so. You might send him a email and see if he has any available. http://www.dzcues.com is his web site. Bob was a pleasure as well.

Lots of good cues out there. If you like sneakys you might also look at Bob Freys cues, think his contact info is on tim scruggs web page. http://www.timscruggs.com

My daily player is a schon, which I really like. I didn't like their black widow sneaky though. Had one for a few months and never really liked how it hit. Just didn't seem balanced as well as I would have liked, but it was a used cue that I picked up for a good price.

Would think in a custom cue you might be able to get a little longer butt instead of going with a longer shaft.

If you have been using a Meuci and like the way it plays I would not switch to predator if I were you, they are almost the complete opposite in hit and style of play.

As said above, if you like a longer cue then go custom made, simply getting a longer shaft is not the way to go, with a custom cue you can get the cue 2 inches longer and that length will be an inch on the butt and shaft each and keep the cues dimensions even.

My 2 cents would be to suggest http://www.mikkelsencues.com/Cues.htm Former England snooker pro and later 9-ball pro builds those cues and he is very well known by the more knowledgable people of the pool scene all over North America, even met afew people in Asia who knew him due to his snooker days. His cues will be very collectable in the future and are right now simply well priced custom cues that hit about as good as anything out there. He has also built alot of longer cues, mine is 59 inches, he has built many that length and about 2 or 3 last I saw him were 60. Also, if you dont like linen Mikkelsen cues are also a sure fire solution as his solid piece leather wraps are second to none in looks and function. Tyler Edey who beat Strickland and got some chat going about his tear through the US Open this year shoots with one, so does Edwin Montal, who beat Keith for 3 large with one. Most of the top players who hit with his cues tend to think they hit awesome and perform well with them.

Sounds like a second cue purchase, I would go with the Schon, two reasons, if you don't like it you can probably resell it and get most if not all your money back, its a classic style/make of cue that has stood the test of time. Also, it will give you a sense of the feel and the quality of what all great players have used in days of past, maybe it wasn't a Schon but chances are it was made in a similar manner, also on resale, more people will probably want a cue with a wrap, and your grip will be more consistent under humidity changes. This cue will have a warranty and a feel that sets a bar of quality which you'll always be able to compare other cues too. If you keep it for many years there is a good chance it will appreciate. Hope this helps, BF

BCM cues are nice too in a custom

Might take awhile to get a cue though. Resale tends to be good.

I have two Bob Frey sneaky pete's and like them both. Just my two cents.

thanks guys for the input so far.......I will definitely check out some of the cues mentioned. My meuci really doesnt seem that whippy to me. I shot with a friends custom 60 inch cue once and it was very whippy and i didnt like it.
Im not 100% sold on the idea of a longer stick, especially if I have to deal with the whip problem.
Yeah I didnt mention my budget but im looking to spend no more than 500 really.

I play with a 60" cue. The problem I found with conventional cues is that the longer shafted ones flex too much for my taste, and they tend to squirt a lot for some reason.

My problem was solved by going to a 30" Predator shaft mated with a 30" butt. I would say that the 60" Predator shafted cue plays about the same as a shorter cue, it's just longer and squirts a whole lot less, therefore it's more accurate.

I have two 60" cues set up just like this, one a fancier Josswest custom with a Predator adapted to it, and a sneaky pete with a Predator shaft. I can play with either one and they feel pretty much the same to me.

My cues are light - about 18.5 oz. each, which helps them remain balanced because the predator shafts are light, especially in the tip area.

Predator makes shafts up to 30". You can also adapt a 30" shaft to a 29" standard butt - no problem at all as long as it feels long enough for you and feels well balanced.

You might want to just order a 30" Predator shaft for your Meucci to see if you like it - I think they're around $175. Later on you can have a cuemaker make up a butt/handle for you using a 5/16 X 18 flat faced joint. If you don't like it, Predators have pretty good resale on E-Bay.

Hi Roger, How are you?

I just wanted to point out that both my 30" Predator shafts play very stiff, which I like. However, I haven't tried out a bunch of them, so it's possible that some are stiffer than others.

I agree. Schon's are beautiful sticks. In terms of quality, you get the biggest bang for your buck. Resale value is excellent and the feel just brings you closer to the cueball. Others have their favorite - mine, is a schon.
