It's not a "Stick".....

For God's Sake, I hate hearing pool cues called "Sticks". If you're new to pool, I get it, but it's especially bad when someone who's been around the game, or even builds cues calls it a "stick". It's a purpose built instrument. It's a tool, an implement, an extension of your arm. It's not some broken branch you found on the ground. People who call pool cues, "sticks" should be limited to playing bumper pool. No 8, 9, 10 ball, 1p, or 14.1 for you. I know many of you will disagree, but I had to get this minor rant off my chest... Thanks for listening.

Holy hell dude... Who cares. I'll call it what I like. Nit

I'm all for the thread creator.
It's just a bunch of idiots trying to be cool by sounding casual instead of being precise.
And no, let's not get overboard - a cue is not theoretical physics and not really hard to do properly.

Luckily I live in Germany where we usually are rather precise about what we're doing - and so I've NEVER heard anybody calling a cue a "Stiel" "Stock" or something like that (stick).
And we also don't have balls but a "Billardkugel" which is more a billiard orb / sphere than a ball.

Cheers,
M

Yeah, very precise. I saw a old WWII Heinkel He 111 once. We shot those down by the thousands.
Careful who you call an idiot, dummkopf.

I was just about to order from

CUESTIK.COM

AKA, Atlas Cue Supply, they are the BEST advertiser on AZBilliards, TELL THEM YOU'RE SORRY.

Hope the STICK does not hit you in the A$$ on the way out the door, just kidding, this thread had some great humor.

Anybody know where I can get custom "stick-caps?' Be clean, I don't mean that machine in the men's room.

I honestly get what galipeau is saying, not necessarily with the word stick, as I don't mind stick, but I understand where he's coming from. As me myself, I hate whoever calls the cueball "The cue" or "The rock" sometimes in matches, commentators tend to say that alot about the cueball, I know its called cueball and I like it being called cueball, because the cue is something else.

So when commentators say he needs to watch his Cue. as a reference for The cueball, I just don't like it to be honest. also some of them call it the Rock, I know why they call it that, but its not that nice, rocks are in the street and mountains, not in the pool table :P

I usually call my stick a "Club" but I do kind of like "Baton"

For balls instead of spheres how about we call them "Orbs"?

Here is a weird question......
For all the folks who get bothered or annoyed by people using alternate terminology, how long have you been playing?
Im not asking this to knock anybody, but I have a theory..... :grin-square:

ive been playing since I was a young kid, probably when I was 10 or 12, I play pool on and off, its not like my life as I do have other hubbies

Seems like a lot about nothing really. Is stick or cue stick really that offensive or out of line? Well I guess so to the OP, but it seems to be generally accepted to me...

It's true about German precision engineering. Take firearms for example. During WWII the German Mauser bolt action had a beautifully designed and manufactured bolt action. This action is still used today in hunting rifles.

The USA troops had the M-1 Garand. Cranked out by the thousands by various manufacturing firms.

With the Mauser, one shot, work bolt to insert another shell, shoot again.

With the garand, one shot, squeeze trigger for another shot...8 rounds per en bloc clip. A semi automatic design.

I call my cue a trusty cue or a worthless piece of firewood, depending on my mood at the time.

So I asked the ferryman "Charon" I says " What do you call that?"
He said "Styx."
I said "Hmmm, it looks like a river to me."
