It's not my website but...

...I would make a couple changes to wanted/for sale forum.

• I would create two forums, one for cues and another for everything else. Cases, chalk, extensions, videos, want to trade x for a cue, all that is on a separate forum.

• For the cues only forum, after the same seller has bumped the same cue x (my number would be 5) times, he can't bump that cue again for 3 months or has to reduce the price by 25%. After 10 bumps, can't bump it for 6 months or must reduce price by 50%.

The reason - The few good deals on cues are being crowded out by overpriced cues and other "stuff".

Just my opinion.

I have never sold on the forum but I do look at it and it can be annoying. One person bumps and then someone else has to bump and so on and so on. I would not permit any bumps at all. The problem is, how would you deal with answering questions if you can't post?

I guess it could be done with PM's. Maybe it can be set up where the OP can not post but can respond to another poster for a question by honor system. Just have the honor system for the OP to not bump or make meaningless post like "Thank you for looking" to no one but they can answer a question.

If they violate the rules they just get barred from selling plain and simple. It is a private forum that is free, if they don't like the rules then do sell on here.

For sale

It's all too hard to police and people will not use the honor system. Make it where you can't bump any threads period. Everything else should be done via PM. Also, I make a mental note of all the sellers on here who ask crazy prices and don't even open their threads. If you do that, you can keep a check on the forum pretty quickly. They could be selling a Southwest for $500 but I'd never see it because their prices are usually just jacked up.

The rest is supply and demand....

I would make it a classified section, with all transactions required to go through paypal.

Every seller would pay to list his item.

Every buyer would have to use paypal to deal with any disputes.

There should be a legal disclaimer that anyone who is allowed to sell or buy must agree to holding AZ billiards harmless for any and all liabilities.

I think it's wrong that AZ Billiards pays good money for the site, the site management, and the bandwidth. And not only does everyone get to use it for free, they ***** to AZ if something goes wrong.

Royce Bunnell, one of those who pays for an add to sell his products.

Its really simple. Post the item for sale, all correspondence done via PM. No posting allowed whatsoever, from anyone.

Simple.

That's how it is suppose to be done currently, with a bump allowed only at 48 hour intervals.

Your confusion is understandable .. LOL

Occasionally you will notice that many threads are removed at the same time for violations.

But it 's like a traffic speed zone ... They all stop for a while after the deletions, but before long here come the violators again.

Perhaps it's time for some more AZB traffic law enforcement.

Yes, but if the section was formatted and programmed to not allow replies to the posted item for sale, it wouldn't be an issue. That is not currently the case.

In other words, make it not possible, as opposed to against the rules. Because we know that people won't follow the rules.

I understand ... I think that's a great idea ... seems like it might be easy to accomplish too.

no posting is best way to have it.

the way it is now all of the cronies of the seller post (bump) and say what a great deal that is and i wish i had the money. and some unsuspecting fool buys it thinking its a fair or good deal.

but those that know it is overpriced or a bad product are not allowed to say so in someones post.

i have bought a few thousand dollars worth of things off it but no longer look at it as its filled with same old things getting bumped and misrepresented.

Problem is they bump at 48 hours but don't reduce the price significantly enough to sell. I believe my idea would force reasonably priced cues and reduce the clutter but it's not my website.

I looked earlier and the cue at the top was again bumped. It has been listed for 4 months. Think maybe no one is interested? What does the seller care, it doesn't cost him anything to keep bumping this cue in front of cues that maybe someone may actually want.

If they used the same rules as Craig's List I think that would work perfectly. You can only repost something once a week and there is no bumping. If it hasn't sold in a month then drop the price.

In fact the guy I am referring to is a perfect example of why bumping should not be allowed at all. He himself is also a victim of his own type actions. His 4 month old ad that was in the first spot of page 1 just a few hours ago is now at the end of page 3.
This does not work for anyone.

I'm pretty much done selling on here. It's just not viable. Too many things for sale at one time for this format. I'm selling in the Facebook groups from here on out. Much broader audience, and a way better format for buying and selling. Also, any buyer/seller has to stand behind their real names on there, no anonymous sellers to swindle you.

If you ban bumping, all the complaints will shift to being complaints about new posts for old stuff. The problem is that this is a marketplace that needs prices. Something small would probably do the trick. $1 for the initial post in the for sale forum and $1 for every subsequent post by the initial poster. The point isn't to generate revenue, just to use a small price to restrain bad behavior that is otherwise costless.

(In DC, the city imposed a 5 cent bag tax. The goal wasn't revenue, just fewer bags in the streets and rivers. It worked.)

If the above doesn't work because friends do the bumping, then it could be changed to make all posts cost $1 each.

And, as long as we're envisioning charging people to make useless posts in the For Sale forum, the price for posts containing any variant of the following should be at least $20: "monster", "great player", "GLWS", "a ton", etc.

Initially, this plan could have a bottle neck, then, would level out for an orderly experience.

vBulletin may not have the option of a 1 post limit on a particular board.

Policing is time consuming and subjective especially price fixing of private property.

The plan;
A - Moderator with administration privilege’s, an editor-at-large (EAL) for the most part.

B - Category (wanted/for sale) >

C – Boards (Each person would have their own board.
Board qualifier – membership in good standing.
Board occupier is the only one who can post in their privileged board.

D – Those wishing to be a board occupier submit to the EAL your wish with
the necessary info –(Birth name, contact info, location and terms.)
There could be other things like profession and alike.

E- Submissions are time stamped for orderly board adds to the category at
the pleasure of the EAL.

F – Once it is your turn for consideration by the EAL, EAL will initiate your board
with an opening sticky post with the required – (Birth name, contact info,
location and terms. A picture of you maybe? )
Think of it as your shingle/header type of post.
Your only privileges are post and delete maintaining a clean and desirable
board that someone might want to visit.

works for me.
