It's Soap Box Time: Calling out the cheapskates!

I see the type all the time. I'll add another level of cheapskate to the mix. I know a guy who always complains about the music at the hall, even more so when there is no music playing but refuses to put a single dollar in the jukebox. In his defense, he has no problem buying food or drinks, just can't seem to justify feeding the jukebox. We are all cheap in our own ways, some people just prefer to show it more often.

All good points, but as you know...some poolrooms are more deserving than others...It's all about how they treat the customers...

newest fad I've seen since they quite smoking in san antonio in bars and pool rooms is for people to come to the pool hall; order a glass of water, extra ice of course; don't want to pay a dime for it and then go outside to smoke and just happen to stop by their car and do some drinking and then back into the pool hall for another water. sickening I tell you.

This wouldn't happen if the smoking ban hadn't been instituted. We're told it won't harm business, but the law of unintended consequence triumphs at the expense of the room owner.

Am I a bad guy for bringing in a pocket flask and buying the mixer? The pool room doesn't have a liquor license.

There are a couple places I freequent that don't serve coffee. I bring my own in and buy a shot of Kaluha or bucca for it..

The pool hall I play at used to charge 35 a MONTH for all the pool you want up until 7pm. A guy played almost every day, then asked if he could get a partial refund because he was going on vacation for 5 days. Owner just laughed at him...50 hrs of pool for 35 bucks isn't good enough?

He got mad and started just playing on the barbox instead of buying another monthly membership. He would shoot shots and block the balls from dropping. Watched him get a cup of coffee, all of one buck, and not pay because no one was looking at least 3 times.

The owner told me that one time he was talking to the guy, and the nutsack said "I have to go...they're putting out the free samples at Whole Foods" or something like that.

Same guy of course bragged that he and his wife took in over 100k a year.

I think inside_english has been hanging out at my business. Stop making fun of my regulars!

I thought he was talking about the pool hall I was raised in.
Whats crazy if you evry spent a lot of time on a pool hall you have seen all this.

You know who you are.
You run to the nearby fast-food joint because the food in the room is too expensive.
You sneak in beer or whatever because you won't spend a nickel in the place.
You bang a few balls around with friends from table to table so the house can't really track where you are, or if you're "on time" or not. So you think you're slick because playing for free.
You may play in a local weekly tournament, but you annoy everyone by rushing to find an empty table in-between matches to squeeze in as much pool as you can.
You come to an event late, then lie to owner and state you were in the event and got knocked out so you can play on the empty tournament tables for free.

To add insult to injury, you're usually the FIRST ones to complain when everything in the room is not top-notch.
You want the very best equipment etc. but you won't help the room by spending a dime.

Well, where the $%#! do you think that money is coming from?

If you ever dare to enter a tournament that cost more that $20, you whine and gripe about payouts, green fees, etc.

The worst kind of cheapskates, in my opinion, are the railbirds who are there for hours and hours and will only buy one cup of coffee, but will poison every event by complaining to the players about event payouts etc. when they have NO stake in anything. They paid no entry fees, bought no one in the calcuttas, is backing no one and helped no one...they are just toxic a$$holes who have nothing better to do.

And please don't reply to this by telling me how some pro somewhere has no choice because they are struggling and it's a tough beat for them to make it.

Don't let this thread meander into the usual back-and-forth about "money in pool".

They are NOT who I am talking about.

If a hall doesn't have good food at a reasonable price I have no problem walking across the street to the A&W.

Call me a cheapskate to my face. I dare you

supergreenman, send me the airfare so I can come up and call you a cheapskate to your face...................I'm not worried about getting it because your so cheap.

I'm not a cheapskate, but I am thrifty. The hall I usually shoot at doesn't serve food, so that's taken care of. I don't drink when I play, so another non-issue. I do tip the two young guys that are most often working there when I cash out my table, though. I don't have a lot of time to play these days, so I'm not there for social purposes, or to be entertained: I'm there to run 5 balls in 14.1!

if the room owners are nice i have no problem spending my $$ at there poolhall i know how hard it is to make it but there is a poolhall i went to a few times out here they dont supply any powder are chalk for your hands cause the owners wife does not want to clean the tables at the end of the night they have it behind the bar and if you ask for it she will tell you to buy a glove are act as if your to dumb to use the chalk with out messing up the table so i put chalk every where lol now i just dont go there anymore that way there table stay spotless

Somebody say free water somewhere?

And don't start that I'm a cheapskate. My average bill at Felts is $18 to $25 with a tip for the counter person. And that's just pool and lunch. And lunch with a Pepsi.
