I've got a question about an old Viking.

Ok lets do this as a long story short bit...recently I got my first cue...well first good one and I noticed somethings... Mainly, that the cue is only 57" long...thats right 28.5" from the tip of the ferrule to the end of the shaft collar and 28.5" from the beginning of the SS joint to the end of the butt cap....was this a common length for viking to make during the 80's? A fellow AZ'er identified it as a model from their 83 catalog.

There is no STANDARD for pool Qs, but yes this was & still is the length some Qmakers use. Many, including me feel that 57" Qs play best (for most people). 56" was typical, in the 60's...JER

57 in was the standard length for production cues
from at least the 1940s - Hoppes were 57, as were Rambows,
though you could request different.
Paradise and Palmer were 57 - even early Joss. You could say 57 was the default til Mooch and McDerm influenced a change to 58 in.

I'm not sure when Viking went from 57 to 58, but I do seem
to recall they were the last 'big name' to change.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yea I knew 57 wasn't like a crazy irregular length...I just thought that things have always kinda been 58" or more...I know some cue makers will build 60"ers but Im not quite looking for something that long...I think Im gonna end up getting a 30" shaft built by one of the fellows around here...I'm thinking about having it built out of the Atlas fusion (Annie O style) blank. That should give me something decent...58.5" for a 6'2" me sounds pretty good.
