read a news story the other day about trump lifting the trophy hunting ban that was imposed by obama. does this mean that we no longer need the underground railroad to buy, sell and trade cues with ivory in them?

Not sure if it's true or not but even if he lifted the federal ban, he can't change the state bans. So it's still illegal to ship or sell in the banned states.

"He" and his handlers can't make up "his" mind about anything.

That aside, why would anyone want a cue with ivory...considering where it comes from and how it's "harvested?"

If you want lots of Ivory in your next cue, perhaps a half grown elephant slaughtered in front of his family will provide enough for all the inlays, joint, Hoppe ring and ferrules.

You know what makes nice white inlays? The teeth of cue makers that take a deposit and never deliver a cue.

Well that's pretty funny, but did u know there's other ways for them to harvest ivory without slaughtering elephants.

Really, do the ivory dealers know where the elusive "elephant graveyard" is?

Robbing graves is in bad form as well.

Hundreds of tons of natural death Ivory do indeed fall to the ground every year. Also Elephant herds have to be culled to keep them from over populating just like deer and elk here. Elephants have already turned much of Africa into desert just like over grazing cattle did to the SW USA. Not only does over grazing from Elephants put them in danger of extinction it also wipes out the food supply that other species live on. I wish we would let the countries in Africa that try to maintain healthy populations do their job and quit putting sanctions against them that hinder their efforts.

I DO want of Ivory in my next cue.

Yeah we could just use dead people teeth lol

Yep, I got a chuckle out of that too. Maybe best to grind up the teeth and add a binding resin to it. It could be called genuine enamel. Maybe add a grain pattern to it?

All the best,

i wasn’t trying to start a debate over should or should we not buy cues with ivory inlays. yes, i like having ivory in my cues. likewise, i totally understand if others don’t care for it for whatever reason.

and yes, maybe the underground railroad comment wasn’t the best choice of words.

however, having said all of that, in recent years there have been very reputable cue makers like ernie from ginacue that have come under great scrutiny because of using ivory in their cues.

check out the for sale section, lots of ads referring to ivory as the good stuff or using xxx to fill in the blanks with the spelling of ivory.

my question was simply with trump lifting the trophy hunting ban, will cuemakers be able to use ivory without fear of prosecution and/or will buyers and sellers be able to use the ‘I’ word without censorship.

I agree with Chris

The ban Trump is lifting has to do with trophy kills during a safari. Nothing to do with ornamental, "worked" ivory.

Also as stated, states have their own laws now... like illegal immigration. :)

Joe

Ivory and Illegals, this thread should self destruct in..5....4.....3.....

The ivory restrictions still remain and trophy huntimg occured prior to Trump via a permit process.
And remember, there's state laws enacted which cannot be superceded except by an act of Congress.
