I have a Chris Jones Sneaky with a half stainless joint and white delrin buttcap. I would like to have it retrofitted with ivory. Can anyone recommend a cue maker to do the work? Any ideas what the cost may be?

Thanks,

R.S.

Any idea of the weight difference of stainless compared to ivory? Would the balance be greatly affected?

Based on some rough SS joint collars & some rough ivory joint collars machined to exactly the same specs, I find that the ivory is 74% of the weight of the stainless steel.

The effect on balance will vary depending on the weight of the cue and the size of the joint collar. Changing a large collar on a light cue will affect the balance more than changing a short collar on a heavy cue.

Appreciated

Thanks for the insight. I had not even considered the possible effects on balance / weight.

your talking a few grams in wieght change it wont move th balance that far forward or backwards when you replace it with something that is 75% of the weight that was on it before the change. Lets assume the steel collar wieghs
1ounce or 31 grams - 75% equals roughly 7 grams just slide 7 grams up and down to how far it will take to move the balance point. There is a formula to do this and a cant think of it or find it but anyone flying planes know it for wieght distribution so they can maintain a level or balanced flight so to speak. You can also install a longer pin to offset the weight change if needed.

I think switching to Ivory will premote a better hitting cue if done right.
Hit with some ivory jointed cues first or ask the cue maker to make you a sneaky with an Ivory joint so you can try it out first.

Just throwing out more then 2 cents worth.

I just weighed a 1" steel joint and it weighed 1.25 oz. I then weighed a 1" ivory joint and it weighed .5 oz. That is a 3/4 oz. difference in weight. I think that that may make a difference in balance somewhat.

> For the poster that said an ounce is 31 grams, that is close but not accurate. According to the U.S. Dept. of Weights and Measures,an ounce is 28.4 grams. You can definitely feel a difference of 7 grams, try using a common quarter. Tommy D.
