has anyone ever had or played with a break cue that has an ivory joint? i am thinking about having Chad Carter make me a break shaft for my custom, which has an ivory joint.

will the ivory joint be better? worse? hit softer? hit harder? not make a difference at all?

thoughts posters?

Unless you are dying to ruin the joint of your cue, why bother? Ivory is too fragile and too expensive.

The break, you should not need that much feel for anyway or be hitting that hard.

Go buy a Predator BK and be done with it DCP...

Shorty

I've gotta agree with Shorty on this one... Too many bad things can happen on the break and you could chip or crack the ivory. It can take pressure along the length of the cue, but just isn't made for any bending. Buy a nice Sneaky Pete... I recommend Showcase (if they still make them, they may only do custom cues now). You wouldn't strap a snowplow blade to the bumper your Porche and start busting drifts, so don't do it to your good stick!

I have a Predator BK. Am very disappointed with the materials used. The black paint chips off very easily and now the cue looks like crap plus when the paint chips it leaves sharpe edges. Also heard problems with the ferrules cracking. I don't recommend it.

I have a Gilbert Jump/break and have no problems with the finish and it is a better looking cue. Does not have that dorkey looking panther on it. Also sometimes use it as a player.

I discourage customers from Ivory Joints and ferrules for breaking, but I play and break with the same cue. I have a natural break shot, and it may seem that I hit hard, I really use very little effort. So it really depends on you and your personal preference, and of course the cuemaker is not going to warranty it from cracking, If you have to work hard on breaking, I would say no, plus the added cost.

the last time i saw Efren in a tourney, he was breaking with an carved ivory-joint cue... it looks like and Edwin Reyes custom but im not sure... i dont know if he's using that in the IPT KOH.

Ivory joint? Why?

From what I gathered by actually reading the post was that he's wanting to turn one of his customs into a break cue and said custom has an ivory joint.

it's still silly,,,efren or not. as michael has attested, the cost alone doesn't make sense,,,,and metal is much much much harder tha ivory. and hardness is what you want.

If you have a very big break, may be the ivory joint will crack but it also depends on the joint configuration.

I have made a prototype X Breaker with a piloted ivory joint. It had a wood sleeve inside of the ivory joint. Actually, the wood takes up most of the impact, along with the protection of the linen joint collar, I serious doubt that it will crack.

Just my opinion.
