Ivory joint question

I recently discovered a crack in the ivory joint on my playing cue. My cue man said it's easily repairable. So my question is, should I stick with ivory or go with a substitute? I'd like to hear from some of you that may have been down this road before. Thanks and happy new year to you all!

After much reflection and hard critical thinking I've come to the conclusion that you should do whatever you feel you should do.

Yes, replace it with ivory.
If you find what you believe is good ivory, grab an extra piece and hope you never need it.

Thanks a million, I couldn't have done it with out you

It's my sneaky pete that was made by Al Link, a cue maker here in Roanoke. He said if it were him, he would replace it with ivorine because it will never crack and it plays the same. Not a terribly expensive repair, but I wouldn't want to do it very often. I understand that one piece of ivory can crack and the next piece could last a million years, but it's for my daily player and I want to make the best decision

with ivory you can never come inside from out when its cold and hit balls the least bit hard until the ivory hits room temp. thats what cracks most of them.

If Ivory bothers you change it out. If you have no objections to Ivory stick with Ivory. It's your choice.

Hey, I live just south of you in the Martinsville area. Do you play at Guys and Dolls or a different place? Does Al still make cues, and do you have his contact info? I want to get a custom 60 inch cue for a daily player, but nothing too fancy, maybe just a sneak pete. Thanks a bunch!

After much reflection and hard critical thinking I've come to the conclusion that you should do get the ivory replaced with another ivory joint. i had ryan(ratcues) replace my old joss cue's cracked ivory joint and i am tickled with the result.

Fact: Your cue will be more durable with ivorine, your pool game will not suffer, you will lose membership in the ivory joint club.

Ryan does great work!~I just got my first ivory jointed cue from Kenny Murrell and really like it. I always wanted to try one. It does play different.
