Ivory joint question

I recently bought a Mike Stacey cue on Ebay which was listed by the seller as having an ivory joint. Well, I just heard back from Mike himself and he tells me the joint is white phenolic, not ivory. I contacted the Ebay seller asking for a $50 refund for the listing error, which I believe to be an honest mistake (the seller was the 2nd owner of the cue).

Since an ivory joint is generally a 125-150 dollar option on a custom cue, I think this is a fair asking price. Right or wrong? I haven't heard back yet from the seller, but I only emailed him an hour ago. I used Paypal, so I can always go through their resolution process if I have to.
 
ivory?

sounds like a very reasonable request of $50 refund
i've run into that several times on ebay
if it's white, they think it's ivory
some, i believe are legitimate mistakes
others, well, i'm a little skeptical :rolleyes:

it's fair because you're still taking a hit. question is,,,,will it be fair to the seller.

ONLY $125-$150?? I thought an ivory joint was more like a $350+ option for a custom cue. I'd expect $100-$150 for just a ferrule.

Some think that a white butt is ivory also. They will list it as ivory and it is really a plastic look alike. They will claim everything as white being ivory also and you know it isn't because of the cue make.

I think a lot do it on purpose. Often there is a cheap Balabushka from Adam listed on Ebay as a real one and with starting price of $5000. I guess if they get it more power to them.

$50 seems more than fair as it is usually at least $150.
 
A typical price for an ivory joint is about $250 and $75 for ivory ferrules, at least from the cuemakers I've dealt with.
 
The seller has countered with a $35 refund and I'll take it, since it's better than zero. All in all I still got a good price on very nice cue. Thanks for all the input AZBers.
 
I used the $125-$150 reference because Jim Griffin of Norwela Cues charges $125 for an ivory joint option, according to his website. The 35 dollar refund I'll be getting from the seller is better than getting the finger.
 
I had the same experience with an ebay transaction involving a current Azer. He told me to G** F*****. I didn't need the problems so I dropped it after a few nasty emails back and forth. $35.00 offer for a non ivory joint is the same thing.
 
Gina Cue charges $175 for the joint and $75 for a ferrule.

The above is the extra charge over the standard joint and ferrule.

I would just tell the seller to forget it. The cue is not being offered as listed. It is fraud. The refund of $35 will not make the joint a ivory joint and the value of the cue is far less than the subtraction of $35.

To me this is the same as someone listing a cue as a Southwest. After you win the bid you find out it is some knockoff and the seller says he will take $100 of the price. No way.

He is cheating you.
