i was wanting opinions on a collared ivory joint comapred to a full/capped ivory joint.considering both are 1" long would the full joint make the cue more valuable than a collared joint?

i have made a few ivory jointed cues and i always use a collar,i guess mainly b/c it's easier and to me it seems like it would be more durable as well.i have always wondered if one is worth more than the other in re-sale?

Ivory is ivory, whether it's sleeved or not, I personally think the full ivory joint is out dated but to each their own.

when in doubt, follow black boar - no one does more research than tony :)

in terms of re-sale, i don't it would affect the price by more than 3 - 5 % for cues under !,500 and once they pass 2,500, i doubt they would affect the price at all...

i was kind of thinking the same thing.it doesn't seem like it would be as fundamentally sound as a collar, but i am sure there will be different opinions.

The previous two very best hitting cues I ever owned had capped full ivory flat-faced joints and I never had any problems with them. That's the reason I had Tony Zinzola put it on my new cue... and it hits very well, too. I like and have faith in that joint. I'm a player (not a cuemaker) but I'm pretty much sold on this type joint. JMO.

I won't mind having an Ivory Joint/Butt cue Mason. ;)

I do think that it helps as it is always mentioned when a cue has one. I have no experience, since I haven't sold one.

The partial picture is YES, there is nothing wrong with a full joint, pretty much along the same line as a ferrule, part tenon and part capped, It works fine if done properly, If you ever have to change the screw, that's where the fun may begin. Nothing wrong with going over phenolic either, stays in line with playability if all your joints are cored.

i personally like full capped ivory joint. sleeved ivory scares me. being that thin i think is has a better chance of cracking. maybe not from play but from cilmate changes. from a warm house to the cold outside then in a warm poolroom.

personally i will never build or own a cue like this. JMO

mason here is an interesting take on a ivory joint with a SS insert. i talked to dennis at greal legnth about this type. i believe he told me this is a tasc. he does a full SS joint with an ivory sleeve.

Looks like stainless, then phenolic then ivory. Correct me if I'm wrong but does that spell sleeved.

What happens on a very cold day and the ivory contracts and there's steel along it's inner wall?

I'm oh so glad you did full ivory joints once upon a time. Love the hit of this one. You used a lot of ivory in the but cap wall too.

I like full capped ivory joint over collar.

Don't forget this quote:
It works fine if done properly, To me, properly is not just drilled and tapped and screwed on flat to flat like a joint protector.
