Ivory questions

I recently bought 2 small pieces of ivory off of ebay before they banned it and this is what showed up at my door. My first question is what kind of ivory is this with the swirls like a burl wood in it?

My second question is, would this stuff be worth trying to get flat or even so I could use it in cues, There has got to be at least 5 pounds of the stuff, it's almost a full box but it's all small pieces of different sizes and shapes. Just wondering if I'd be wasting my time trying to get this to work or if it's workable. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm afraid you would have to work REALLY hard to get anything good out of what you bought. Maybe a SMALL inlay here or there, but not worth the trouble...JER

Much of what is in your box looks like mammoth ivory. You should be able to do some small inlay work with a fair amount of it. I am not sure what kind of ivory the burl looking piece is.
