Ivory doesn't melt, plastics do .
I'm curious...if an ivory substitute is found that convincingly looks like ivory...how will you prove it's not ivory if it is every questioned? As I understand it there isn't really a great way to test it without taking a sample from the cue which sounds at least mildly destructive.
Sounds like it would be just as risky as far as damage to your property goes as having real ivory, though the end consequences would be a lot better since you'd be found innocent of any violation in the end.
