I spent a year there in 1994-95 in the marines & played pool at the "rec center". I remember there was one 8ft table with a post too close to it so you'd have to play position away from the post.:p

There was one japanese guy there that i became real good friends with. His name was Takashi Fujikawa, i'd say he's probably in his 50's now. I'd really like to know how he's doing as well. I remember he took me to Hiroshima to the only pool hall there.

I believe they had 3 gold crowns & 2 3 cushion tables.:D But everything was in immaculate condition.

What makes me mad is, Takashi gave me his address & telephone number when i left & i somehow lost it in the move back stateside. :(

takashi sold me my first cue and case. i was there in i think it was 2002-2003. it must have changed a lot from when you were there to when i was there. there were 2 9ft brunswicks there and i used to go out to iwakuni billiards. it was nice 6 tables 1 with really tight pockets. and then there was ymb not as nice as iwakuni billiards but still ok. takashi's a great guy i still have his email address. did you know Machan? or Hiro?

Bump. i remember when i was in kuwait i logged into this site and someone had saved their profile on the computer anyone here in kuwait?

I was in and out of Iwakuni and Atsugi during the early 60's flying P3A Neptunes for Uncle Sam's Navy ... Don't remember much about Pool, but vaguely remember the Suntori Whiskey and Akadama Wine ...

you go to Terry's? what about Asahi SUPER DRY!!!

Guzzled plenty of Asahi and Kirin, in the Mondo-size bottles .... The girls weren't too bad, neither ....
Had to pinch myself each morning to know I wasn't dreaming .... I had a House, Girl, Food, American Beer & Cigarettes, and a Bicycle (for commuting to and from the Base) ... All for under $100 a month ... Believe me, I wanted to stay there, but my wife in California had other plans for me ...
Great place, and wish I had returned for a visit when I was younger ... I have a ton of 35mm Slides from Iwakuni and they bring back great memories of another time and place ...

I'm a Kirin guy myself and I killed a lot of brain cells at Terry's over the years.
Here's a photo from the 80's of the pool hall just down the street from Terry's:

BTW, here's another Marine's webshots album with some photos from Terry's in 2005: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1453962854014024176UzgPLt

Stationed in Iwakuni from 1966 to 1968.
VP squadron. P3 Orions. Flight Crew.
There wasn't much in the way of pool halls back then... but I remember saki, asahi and kurin and kobe steak and lots of beautiful women.

Heaven on Earth

I was in and out of Iwakuni between 1963-66 at regular intervals. We would go to Sangley Point in the Phillipines or Tan Son Nhut outside of Saigon. That was the tour dreams are made of. Excitement, women, booze, big-time adventure, and we even followed Jerry Lee Lewis' advice to go to church to find out if the Preacher knew of any sins we had not tried. Unfortunately, if there was even one pool hall in Iwakuni, we never found it. We looked in all the low places and if we could remember all the places we had been, it would surely be a miracle. Alcohol and brain cells. That Akadama wine could have you break dancing in highway traffic. Absinthe was instant amnesia. Kobe steak was and is the best in the world. My favorite was the Bar Linda and the beautiful Michiko. The USDollar was king and even with the small military salaries we lived like kings, and that is no exaggeration. Too soon old, too late smart.

So you (and a thousand other guys) knew MY beautiful Michiko too ... She cried when I left for the final time ... They looked like real tears too ??? ... Man, I miss that girl still today. You and I must have bumped (stumbled) into each other in one of the "dives" at some time or another. Good Times, Good Memories ...

There is a Patrol Squadron web site. Many, many old comrades have connected through the site. I don't have the .com address, but think it would google easily. Try VP squadrons, patrol squadrons, etc. If you do not have any luck, PM me and I will get the address from old VP crewmates who have it. Michiko's real name was Fusaka and she was abandoned by her Military husband, one Jimmy Nxxx.

i miss getting the travler cup from terry's so you could finish your drink on the way to the next bar. i never saw that pool hall in the picture near terry's. There was a country that new about customer service "what you're not ready to leave. Ok i'll keep the bar open later."

Yeah, it was gone when I was last there in 93. I believe there was a two story building in it's place (Snack/Bar Circus ?).
I played mostly at the SNCO club. We also had a table on the third deck of the barracks.

Yeah, I used to have that website address and was signed up as a member but, somehow, I can't find it anymore ... I was in VP-46 from '62 - '66, then shipped over and was bumped to Warrant 04 so could fly recon missions over Laos and Cambodia for the Marine Corps ... Oops, I forgot, we were NEVER there ...
