THIS IS JUST A POLL.....I WANT YES OR NO ANSWERS.....talking philosophy or bull shit on this thread not allowed. Please answer all the questions.

Billiards is DEAD in this country and has no hope of resurrection? Y or N

Billiards is DEAD in this country but might be resurrected, some day, some how? Y or N

Should USBA dollars be spent on players prize money rather than spend the same money to try to promote the game? Y or N

Is it really important that we send our "national champion" to play in SA or UMB shit when while they represent this country as the gentlemen they are they have no real chance against the Euro's decling powers and the emerging Asian powers? Could not we use our money more judiciously?

IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER OF THE USBA YOU HAVE ABOUT A WEEK TO JOIN SO YOU CAN VOTE IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION.....you are either on the bus or tossed off of it....that is your choice based on your behavior and your choices......I HOPE YOU CHOOSE WISELY

I will not give you simple yes er nose
Sorry DenIZ your gonna have to read all my crap like I read yours ;)

I'm not a yes or no person, and yes or no answers won't help much

Not that your going to get alot of answers here anyways

Billiards isn't dead, many enjoy it just that many don't have anywhere to play

Most rooms are stuffed with quarter sucking kid tables that "professional" pool player's claim they love playing on

There are more pewl player's than billiards players these days

By that I mean people that like to drink beer while smacking balls around, and people that are billiard enthusiasts, the guys that take any game they play seriously and have a deep respect for games when they see the talent and beauty in Carom games

There is hope of Resurrection, we need to start with Smaller tables, cheaper easier to obtain, don't take up a lot of space , easier to score and get people having fun playing caroms

Need to get rid of this equipment snobbery attitude that's developed

I'd rather have a place with 3 8ft olhausen or cosmos Carom tables than 1ft verhoeven

I'd rather them spend less on payouts and more on promoting
ALL
CAROM

NOT JUST 3 CUSHION!!!!!
Can't stress this enough

I'm the only one in the states giving the classic games any exposure and that is a fact

as I've shown in my posts in the main forums, people (American people)do enjoy the beautiful classic (small) Carom games

Hard to say wheather or not to send Pedro into the wolves den, he won't get better or bring a world championship to America, by playing in the America's alone!

Getting into top world competition on the regular is great for him and billiards in the usa

That's my opinion even though you didn't ask for it
Might not he right, but comes from a true passion for carom

my 2 cents
yes 3c billiards is dead in the usa
why
there are so little rooms that have billiard tables for players to play
no APA 3c leagues to develop players
(dont shoot me for suggesting that)
jmho
even tho i am a pool player i wish i had a 3c table to play on since my cueball control would go up tremendously

What a fantastically honest and unbiased poll. Not. (a clue: if you want a fair poll, don't label, as shit, the alternative you don't like)

Maybe part of the problem is that some 'promoters' of the game act like complete azzes when they are online?

After being introduced to the game for a couple of years I moved and because of no local tables didn't play for 25 years. Life went on. Now I have a table (2 actually) to play on, where I live, so I play. Either way, life goes on. Whatever the USBA does or doesn't do will not affect my life in the slightest. I will continue to play and enjoy the game so long as I have a table to play on.

I have no idea what non-dead billiards would even look like in the US, since it has been completely dead for a long long time.

I don't know how dead I'd call it
We have a annual world cup hosted in sangs house
Have 2 world ranking player's
Several cities with large playing communities
Million dollar billiards brings in international player's just after the verhoeven open

It's not as popular as 9ball, but I wouldn't call it dead
I know of a new place opening soon with Carom tables

Who cares how popular it is though, really
Lots of pool player's don't like 14.1 or 1pkt
And those are the best pocket games

The amount of views I get on the straight rail thread is kind of suprising , so not deadjust quiet and layed back
As are most of us that play caroms

Hahah man that would be tough to sit there and watch a room full of 9ballers doing their 7stroke pre shot routine then getting down like a sniper with a 12 inch tripod bridge on every shot

I keed keed

But not really

The more you play the game the more intricate it gets.

I have been putting in about 4 hours a week on a Gabriels Kronos we have in my room. Love the game. There is a room about 45 minutes from me that has 2 Chevollottes that are in constant play. There just aren't that many carom tables around.

Gonna make it up to NYC one day to visit the Carom Room and get a session in there.

The Carom Cafe event is not a World Cup. The last American born world class player was Al Gilbert. The American 3C culture hasn't produced any world class players in a long long time.

in most places there isn't a decent table within reasonable driving distance. It was deader than a doornail when I first took up the game in the mid-80s and it still is.

But I agree that one can play and enjoy the game (if you can find a table) without it being 'popular'. But the fact that I have 2 tables to play on has nothing to do with the USBA, and everything to do with a small group of individuals supporting it where I live.

KO. where do live, with the two 3C tables?

also, Al was a VERY good friend of mine for many years, and a VERY good tournament player, for money too!

There are ONLY 2 past TOP american born players alive today!

George Ashby and myself!

Thought I seen someone claim Frank Torres was born here , then moved to Mexico and back yrs later

It was in the chat room for the usba nationals earlier this yr that someone said that

Greeley, CO. One is a Gabriel's heated table that one of the members bought and donated to the senior center here, and the other is an old Brunswick combination table that some of the members paid to have restored with the original billiard rails, new rubber and new cloth (used royalpro, since that table isn't heated). I feel very fortunate to have these available. I get unlimited play for $24 a year.

There is a guy who comes in every few weeks and sets up and practices shots from your book. We have a little library of books, and a very extensive collection of Accu-stats matches.

I hope 'my' Book/DVD's are in your library! If not, you know how to obtain them.

I am in DC suburbs and I don't think there is a room within 25mi that has a 10' billiard table.

Dead, yes.

Shame, such a beautiful game.

It was in the chat room for the usba nationals earlier this yr that someone said that

Frank was born in Texas. What his parents status was at the time I do not know. They moved back to Mexico when Frank was very young and he did not return to the country of his birth until in his young 20's and the rest is history. He now lives in Las Vegas and anytime any of you are out there look him up. He is one of the greatest TEACHERS of the game I have ever encountered to say nothing of being a gentleman, a scholar and a historian of the game.
