I thought it was because the plot was horrible!

Yeah the premise for this movie

The premise for Jenn's movie kinda scares me. I just had a baby girl, of course whom I plan to teach how to play from an early age, and man it kinda freaks me out. I don't wanna get stabbed in the chest in front of my daughter, maybe I should just give up pool? J.K. ?Had yall going there didn't I?

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, but that monologue at the end, has got to be one of the best monoloques ever.

I think Jen is a real good player and she has a stunning appearance, but a pool movie with a girl as the lead seems dead in the water to me. Just think, Piper Laurie as the lead in the Hustler?

I am still waiting for Mcgoorty's Billiard Bum to come to the big screen.

I don't know?!?!?!?!

Yeah that was a different era though. I kinda thought the same thing, I guess it just depends how much of a role her characters father plays, who they get to play the other roles and so on and so forth. I think it definitely has the potential to be a great movie. I think if they solely use the women of the sport for information and what's the word I'm thinking of? damnadnmadmndamnadnmadmnadmnadmnadmnadmnadmn. consultants, they might be in trouble because they might alienate the men. I don't know we'll have to wait and see. when they release the script on their website I'll read it and creat a thread on what I think.

All -

It'll just have to be one of those things that we're just going to have to wait and see. It's an Independent film so it's not like it's going to be released in the way that PHJ was and if it's good, then it gets picked up by whomever it is that grants its release. I think that's how it works?

If anything, I will still purchase this video (when it becomes available) for my pool dvd library. Gotta have it!

wish I could find a copy of ERic's movie

I wish I could find a copy of Eric Nieme's movie. I was friends with him years ago and then browsing the web one day I find out he made a movie about pool. I'd like to see it so I can see if there's anything in there that I might recognise.

My best friend is an indie filmmaker so I know a little bit about this.

Usually, the film will hit the festival circuit before it has distribution attached. Basically, this is a time for it to win some awards, get a picture of audience reaction to it with test screening, and market it to distributors. Chances are unlikely that an indie film will get picked up and see actual distribution. At best, this looks like limited theatrical release to me. It may go direct-to-DVD and see shelf-time. But if it's actually really any good then it will go somewhere.

It's hard to tell because there's no budget info. It looks like their other film "Shades of Paradise" hasn't gone anywhere yet, so that's not encouraging.

And be sure to think of Million Dollar Baby, BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR WITH A FEMALE ATHLETE.

I think the movie would not be dead in the water if Clint was in it too.

It also had Clint eastwood.

Don't get me wrong I don't mean to take away from her performance, but what made million dollar baby so interesting was the character interaction between her and Clint. That's why I said that it will depend how great of a role and in what cinematigraphic format they use her characters father in 9Ball. If, for instance, they keep having flashbacks to her father imparting pool knowledge on her, that would be a plus and it would make the part of her father being stabbed worth more than just shock value, it would show it to be a necesity to the story line. Things like that. It will really come down to how well the story is written and how well it gets directed and what supporting actors etc. I'll post more when they make the script available to read online.

Lol

Don't forget the black guy. I never can remember his name. Morgan Freeman or whatever. He makes a lot of movies and always wins best supporting actor. He helps Clint out a lot and could help out in Jennifer's movie. JMHO. Her success will be partly made by the supporting cast for sure, and if the plot is as good as they are saying, it should be a winner.

I'm sure Morgan Freeman would help out Jennifer's movie too, but I doubt that they could pass him off as her father though. :)
:D

They're expecting for this film to explode in the way The Color of Money did.

Who is They're? With all due respect to all, esp Jenn, that is a pretty tall order. Everytime a Billiards movie comes out they make that comparison but you must remember; "The Color of Money" was based on amazing source material (Walter Tevis) and directed by one of the top 10 directors of all time! Martin Scorsese

Just to get a film made these days is a feat onto itself and I hope this is a good choice & career move by Jenn. Though it also has great potential to backfire. IMO only an amazing director could pull this off, using non actors is always a risk. Doesn't anyone remember Gymkata?

Who doesn't and for those who's best friend borrowed this classic but never returned it you can go here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...db-adbox/104-7409655-0448745?v=glance&s=video

$8.75 for 87 minutes of audio/visual heaven is the deal of the century.
For those not in the know here is a professional review

5 out of 5 stars A Carefuly Scripted & Subtle Cold War Commentary, June 12, 2005

Reviewer: Vic G. Sarjoo "VicSarjoo" (New York & New Orleans) - See all my reviews

Extremely reminiscent of cold war sleepers like "Gorky Park" and "Reds", Gymkata is one of the most carefully scripted and brooding commentaries on American foreign policy during the Reagan years. The film is more like a documentary than a work of fiction in its deep attentione to historical accuracies and avoidance of hyperbole.

Robert Clouse's directorial adaption of Dan Tyler Moore's Pulitzer-shortlisted novel manages to capture timbre of the times and the voice of the decade in a script of intricate complexity. Kurt Thomas's portrayal of the hero across from Tetchie Agbayani's heroine is one of the most dynamic and surprising chemistries since Bogart and Bergman's 43 years before.

However, where "Casablanca" fell far short of documenting the spirit (and fears) of the times on a granular level, Gymkata and its cast is unafraid to take this plunge.

In characterizations deeply respectful, and yet photo-accurate, regarding world cultures and global motifs, Gymkata manages spell the poly-sided views of complex conflicts that occurred during the final grey gasps of the Cold War.

Amazingly Gymkata manages a foreshadowing the rise of the Neo-Cons some 20 years later in its depictions of the United States use of aggression in strategically important hotspot regions -- and as well -- the film is able to show that the nationalistic concerns of the competing sovreignties (both ally & foe) remain unchanged despite which decade these events play themselves out in.

A timeless film, Gymkata should be a core film study in every graduate level political science class.

Your welcome. :p

if jeanette lee got offered a cameo similiar to miz's in "color of money", should she,,,,,,,,

1...accept the cameo. she needs the exposure and wants the money.
2...turns it down. she already has exposure and the money won't be enough, anyway. the movie probably won't fly, and damned if she'll hitch a ride on BARRETTA'S movie.
3...turns it down. it'll hurt the image she's built in both the pool community and general public as THE prominent personality in pool.
4...turns it down. who is this jennifer baretta who's following her business model, and is 10x less the player. it's one thing to play cameo to tom cruise or kirsten dunst. it's another to cameo opposite an average pro player/no name not even actress.
5...accept it. any exposure for pool is good for pool

i thought this scenario to be funny and ironic

Jeanette actually encouraged Jennifer when she first started getting magazine and media exposure. There's no animosity there.
