I unfortunatly don't have first hand knowledge since he played before my time...
However...for the record...I believe Roger Griffis was the best player to come out of the Arizona area....Jack was top ranked...but I am not sure he was considered the best....However he had some REALLY tuff competition back then...
I am not really sure if Jack or any others were "from Arizona"...since not many people are acually born in Arizona.
At the time Jack played in Arizona I think Rod "Babe" Thompson and Don Rose may have some arguement on who is/was the best.
Also back in that time era...I have heard that Jim Rempe spent much time in the Phoenix area.....Not to mention Steve Knight, Louie Roberts, Danny Diliberto,
I have heard stories of a downtown Taxi bar that Rempe and many other top names used to frequent for some action.....Madden may have very well been involved in all that.
Rod Elliott posts here from time to time and may also chime in with some information....(Another local top shooter back in the day)....SJD who now lives in the Phoenix area may have some knowledge of the goings on back then also...but I am not sure he was local back then...he may have been "OTR"
Again...I would suggest calling him personally...He may be able to give you some stories...OR we may all get lucky and he will post a story or two on line since he posts here from time to time.
I like reading good pool stories...
