I am ashamed to admit that I've never seen her play, even though I was in Vegas at the BCA event. I used to watch so many events, but now I just can't stomach them when they're not the Derby City or the US Open. I'm spoiled, I know.

Anyway, for those that have seen her play... is she that good? Is she the next in line for the throne? Does she play like Jean or does she play like Allison? What's her high run? What's her break like?

Fred <~~~ and when does the countdown end?

Well, I don't know if she is next in line for the throne, or anything, but she has been quite impressive at the 14.1 Championships. She is the lone woman in the round of 16 and even snapped off an 85 ball run yesterday. Her game is definitely strong and she really keeps her composure well. I am looking forward to seeing more of Ms. Ouschan in this and future events.

She is that good!

I personally think that her showing at the BCA is the most impressive string of matches in one event that i have ever seen in the women's game.

Jasmin knocked out the top 3 players out of the tournament, and beat 6 of the top 8 ranked WPBA players. She also sent home two time World Championship Shin Me Liu.

Yes she is that good. Here are the scores...she won all the matches below. Her only loss was to Melissa Herndon 5-9

Winner's Side
9-8 Ga-Young Kim #4
9-2 Alice Rim
5-9 Melissa Herndon

One Loss Side
9-8 Dawn Hopkins
9-7 Karen Corr #2
9-3 Kelly Fisher #3
9-3 Pam Treadway
9-3 Gerda Hofstatter #7
9-2 Shin Me Liu - 2 time World Champion
7-6 Helena Thornfeldt #8 (Tv Round #1)
7-5 Allison Fisher #1 (Tv Round #2)

She really got into a groove during her match with Karen Corr and she won her next 4 matches by a combined score of 36 -11 against some top players.

My only question is...

Do you think it is more impressive that she won the Women's BCA event (beating all of the top players) or is it more impressive how she is playing in the World Straight Pool Championship.

Anyone have a coin...lol

She is great for the sport... there is no question that she will change the minds of the remaining men pool players who think that women don't belong in their events.

Regardless of what happens in her next match against Michael Felder her performance has been very solid by anyone's standards.

I wonder if she will play more men's events when she comes to the US full time.

Mike--

She is frighteningly good. And getting better all the time. Imagine beating John Schmidt at straight. Some of her other accomplishments:

Cons. runs 8-ball 4
Cons. runs 9-ball 6
14.1: 127!!!
3th place World Championships 2006
European 8-ball Champion 2006
European Straight pool Champion 2006
3th place European championships 9-ball
IOC Worldgames Champion 2005
European Straight pool Champion 2005
European 9-ball Champion 2005
World youth Champion 2005
Eurotour winner Germany for women 2005
13 times youth European Champion
25 times Austrian Champion.'

I've only seen her play online through numerous webcasts, but just from what I've seen she seems to have a real well rounded game. She could use a little work in the safety department but that will come with experience. She has shown us this week that her straight pool game is very strong, I would look for her to start making her presence very well known in the US and for her to start competing more here too.

Dawn had her down either 8-3 or 8-4 (not certain). And she just played great, getting out at her first opportunity each rack. I watched it. And in the last game she made a marvelous break and run, world class caliber. she showed tons of heart in that match.

Hey Jay,

I was impressed when Stacy beat Ga Young...lol. What Jasmin did is off the charts. She will be a foce to reckon with for decades.

Do you know if Jasmin paid her WPBA member dues before the BCA, it looks like they didn't give her points according to their site. I had her ranked #33 after the BCA event.

This is what I said in another thread after I got back from Vegas:

"I was very impressed with Jasmine. She beat, amongst others, Shin Mei Liu, Kelly Fisher, Gerda, and Corr to get to the finals. Watching her and Alison was a real treat. Such beautiful form, and these two basically stayed in line the whole time. A race to seven means little by itself. But I think if you could have seen her demeaner and her composure playing Alison Fisher in a major tournament final with the TV cameras, etc., I think anyone on this forum would have been impressed. I think she has what it takes to be in the Fisher/Corr club."

Mike,

She wasn't required to be a member of the WPBA to play in the BCA event. And here's another question - does the WPBA award points for the BCA event? I never could figure how they justified that.

And, believe it or not, if Jasmine were to have paid her WPBA dues, she would've paid under an Amateur status - $35!

Barbara

Hey Barbara,

I just figured that she would pay the dues because her goal is to play on the WPBA tour. I don't know what the amount is for international players, but from what I remember it is much more than $35.

It is true that you don't have to be a WPBA member to play in the event, but you do have to be a member to get the points...she would be #33 with the BCA events from this year and last year.

Jasmin

Don't know if you guys realize she didn't miss a ball in the final set against Allison. Not one ball....

She played great! NO doubt were going to be hearing a bunch about this young Lady. Here's a photo I took during the Final match...

I don't know about you guys, but I'm rooting her to win. Not only is she the lone female left, but she's also the youngest left. Go Jasmin!

lets just say i lost 50bucks on her winning the world junior womens final in 04 to a girl from tapei who wasn even half the skill of her.she soild none the less.but for being the next jean or fisher maybe in time as she is only young.

Jasmin

Since I have known Jasmin since she was 5 years old, I will tell everyone a few things you may not know. Her father, was also Austrian Champion back in the 80's and learned to play, when pool started sweeping across Europe. Even though he was a Champion then, the level is far higher now as opposed to the 80's. Albin Sr. and wife own a gasthaus in Klagenfurt, Austria and in the back is the billiard room. I think it has 8 tables now.
Her little brother, Albin Jr. is also a jam up player. At 15 he is already 3 or 4 times Austrian Champion by the men and competes in the European Championships with the men as oppossed to playing with the juniors. He is capable of whipping anyone. I believe he came in 3rd at the World Jr. Championships in 2004 and 5th in 2005.
I remember when Jasmin was 11 or 12 years old, they had a womens Eurotour in St. Pölten, Austria and Jasmin played finishing 4th behind Gerda and Allison. The winner was Fransiska Stark(sp) from Germany. For those who don't know Fransiska, she is also a former World Champion!!
So at 11 or 12 she finishes in her first major tournement 4th behind the current World Champion and two former World Champions. How strong is that!!!!!
I have never beaten her. We have crossed cues on the table only twice. She beat up on me at a Grand Prix in Klagenfurt 4 years ago. I was winning 5 to 1 and her father comes and whispers in her ear and the next thing I know it's 9 to 6 and I'm going home. Danke Jasmin!!!!!
I was in America 9 years ago visiting some friends, pool players, and we were bullshitting around and I told them, " I know a little girl in Austria that going to be World Champion" and they all laughed! Although she hasn't won the big one yet, She is the current World Games Champion and the current Girls World Champion. Is she 20 yet???
We're all very proud of her!!! She worked and trained for everything she accomplished. :D
To my friend Micky Felder, I guess I owe you a REMATCH for last 14.1 liga match, so you can get even.:p
If anybody is at the World Championships today that read this, please tell Micky and Jasmin that Steve says hi and hope to see you at the Eurotour next week in Rankweil, Austria.:)

no-sho, thank You for giving us all a very nice piece of history and facts about player who will be one of the greatest. She has both the talent and the will.
