>>>Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball, Feb 7-8, CSI PPV

I purchased the stream today to watch just those 2 matches. I am feeling really ripped off right now. CSI need to let people know UP FRONT that the stream is NOT all of the event, only selected time frames that their IT guy feels like streaming. I am major pissed off right now.

A: There was no guarantee either of those would be on the TV table.
B: The time frames are listed. I simply didn't look at the time the actual tournament started. It really would have been nice to get the whole tournament. I was surprised last night when Justin said they would stop streaming at 11pm, seemingly regardless of what was happening.

I'm not pissed, just somewhat disappointed. I knew the stream would start at 1pm, but didn't bother to check the time the tournament started. This is in spite of the fact I know over a dozen people playing and I was present last year. For that I have no one to blame but myself.

That being said, I think it is a bad idea to charge for a stream and not broadcast the entire thing. EVEN if you state the times. For those who didn't check the time the actual tournament started, I suppose it would have been nice to post that time in the same ad as the stream in this thread.

I don't want things to die like TAR(I bought nearly all of them) did, so I hope my criticism is taken constructively.

With what seems the majority of the pool community wanting a free stream it is easy to complain about anything that goes awry when they have to pay for it. Let's not forget that there are people there that are investing THEIR time to make this happen and it's a gamble that they will make any money at all.

I hear *****ing about CSI this and CSI that, but I don't see anyone jumping up and down to be it's successor. Oscar Dominguez and Desiree Rivera are investing blood and sweat to make the West Mezz Tour work. There is even talk about the US Open being cancelled. Until a few months ago, THIS tournament wasn't even going to happen.

I'd like to thank (not saying anyone in particular in the bigger organizations) the CSI, BCA, USAPL, APA, Oscar, Desiree, Bigtruck, and Daniel Busch(streaming most of the time for FREE) for their efforts in trying to keep pool alive and making a couple bucks in the process. Furthermore, the sponsors like Kamui, OB, Simonis, and so on who contribute money to help make tournaments happen.

We already watched TAR go away because not enough people wanted to pay for those matches. Take 30 seconds, seriously, and think of where pool would be if CSI decided to suddenly say screw it.

If this tournament happens next year and you need someone in the booth, and I'm available, I am volunteering for FREE as of right now. If nothing else, I can just sit there and make sure nothing disappears. I'm good at sitting.

Before I get off my milk crate(I'm pretty short) I'd also like to thank Jay Helfert and Justin Collett(the TARman) for their commentary and hard work.

K..I'm done...for now

ONE LAST THING. Long before 11pm the live broadcast was stopped and they started replaying Mika and Vilmos. I think that should be explained. Were there no more matches to be played on that or the adjacent(can't turn the camera?) table? Regardless of the reason, which I am sure was good, something should have been displayed that explained the why and what.

I tried 2 browsers 2 completely different ISPs and it goes for3 seconds then stops. I am no high tech guy but I think maybe rebooting on your end might help? I went to UStream and found a rail to rail broadcast that is working fine. With no chat how can you know what the stream is like? Thanks for listening.

It seemed to be at a certain time. At the end it was fine. Firefox streams much better than Chrome on my computer. I never use IE anymore and didn't try it. I also tried rebooting.

I think not having chat was a mistake as well. There is usually someone on the chat that can describe what retarded thing you are doing that is hindering viewing quality.

Stream Schedule

Regarding the streaming schedule vs the tournament schedule...

This tournament has 164 players in a double elimination format over just two days. We have two tournament directors onsite to share the load and play was expected to go from 10 AM til 2 AM the next day (16 hrs) each day.

Because the PPV audience is not large, we have to work within our resources. We have one equipment operator/customer support tech and one commentator. We could not expect them both to work 16 hours each day. Therefore, we posted the stream start time as 1 PM each day.

The alternative was to have no stream at all. We hope you understand.

After reports of freezing yesterday and seeing it this morning I have lowered the stream quality in order to hopefully get a steady stream. We were at 800k yesterday and its at 512k now. Welcome to 2008.

Anyone who can't stand it contact me at the email listed on page one and I will do my best to get you refunded.

The stream is up now. Morris is playing Foldes. 6-5 Morris.

To chat use the CSI Ustream chat: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cuesports-international

I will be keeping an eye on that so if you have issues first use the email I provided on page one here or use the contact button on the PPV purchase page and if you want drop something in the chat.

Stream quality

POV streams there all the time and I've never had any problems. Does Daniel use a lower quality stream? Maybe this tournament is much bigger and folks are using the bandwith on their phones, etc.?

Just wondering...

Can you keep the score correct on the stream?

Sucks when you have to rely on the commentators for the score when it should be correct, all the time, at the bottom.

I'd like to second this. I was watching the Morris-Foldes match, and the score said 5-4 Foldes. Then it switched to 6-5 Rodney during the same game. Then it switched to 6-6 during the same game. So I thought it was hill-hill, and Foldes ran out, so I thought he had won the match, except the score stayed 6-6 and Foldes broke again (it says a race to 7 at the bottom). Now I'm watching the next game and I have no idea what the score is (there is no commentator). It still says 6-6.

I'll help for free anytime I am available....seriously. I'm a couple of hours from Hardtimes, so I'd need some notice. This offer applies to anything within 3-4 hours of Ventura.

My comments, and hopefully you read everything I had to say, were meant to be constructive.

Thank you Justin, Jay, and CSI

The stream was scheduled to start at 1. That match was on simply because I was setting up todays stream and wanted to put it up instead of the loop.

In the future I will not start until the scheduled time so there is no confusion. My fault on this one.

I have no idea what POV does. I have done a few streams now and again so my answer based on experience is that things change and sometimes things that worked yesterday do not work today and might work perfect tomorrow.

Normally I have much more control over everything to do with a stream. It didnt work that out that way this time. I'm not thrilled with it either.

No problem. I do appreciate being able to watch the match, so thanks for putting it on. It's just frustrating to not know the score while the match is going on.

Maybe you should sub out the stream to someone local if your current resources aren't right to broadcast this venue correctly..... My opinion as a often subscribed ppv customer is I won't be purchasing a stream for half a tournament. So your alternative was for me too have no stream at all on this one. Is the US bar table going to be a very limited stream also? It one of my favorite events.

Why isn't POVPOOL doing the stream? Did something change? They were doing it for a few years I think. A REALLY good job too!

How is it that Rodney Morris is playing in this tournament? Did he and Mark Griffin make up? Last I read, Rodney was banned from all CSI events.

Old news. They kissed and made up.

Actually Rodney showed a lot of heart and reached out to repair some damaged bridges. He said something to me today that impressed the hell out of me. Not that I ever had a big problem with him. I didnt agree with some of his opinions or how he expressed them sometimes but always respected him as a person. That respect increased today.
