Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

Now Darren Appleton and David Alcaide added.

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the signings.

Billy Thorpe?

appleton doesn't make much sense. i fully expected him to join the heyball tour, which is in the WPA camp. melling would surprise me even more. billy and david seems logical to me

Is there an argument here somewhere?
Both MR and WPA want control and are forcing players to choose which opportunities they have to miss.
I will not defend either of the two power-hungry parties.

How does the Predator tour affect the two ruling orgs?
Are they allowed to play in those events or are they forced to miss out on them too?

I think much of this is blown out of proportion.

So what if a promoter is prohibited from using the words 'world championship'?

Golf manages to cope with terms such as:
The Open
The Masters

And if there is a calendar clash. Who cares?
Crack on with it and the players will determine which is the best option for themselves...

Again, WHAT moral hi-ground???? Both sides are doing what they're doing for purely business reasons. Is one side in this squabble more 'morally correct' than the other? They're both trying to piss-mark the same patch of grass for the exact same reasons. Barry-Emily&Co. are in pool/snooker/darts/etc. for ONE reason: to make money. Sure they love their games but lets not get all warm-n-fuzzy and think this is some altruistic endeavor.

100% agree

The players are at the crossroads and the devil dresses, one in black and the other in white. Both are the same option.

The players will decide upon the devil they know.

Most of the big Ch8b/HB events are in Asia. With DA's health issues i kinda doubt he wants to travel that much. He just played the XingPai-STAR event over there. They are the non-WPA folks. WPA issued another of their chickenshit warnings to any WPA aligned player that went there. Jackoffs.

Some players will naively pass on Heyball.
Noone knows what the future will hold, but Heyball seems to the fastest growing cuesport worldwide at the moment.

Billy Thorpe is No. 2 to be signed on the tour. What does this mean? Are they getting paid, or is this just something to ensure they don't play for the competition? I don't get it. Why wouldn't Matchroom give an explanation what this means? Good grief! I'm happy for Billy, though. Yay!

Do you follow sports much at all? How often, if ever, are all the details of a contract revealed? As said in other posts MR snooker contracts involve payouts along with guarantees from players to appear in certain marquee events. This is probably no different. Again, ask Jayson. If he tells you you'll know, if not you wont. I'd bet that MR told them to clam up at least for a while.

It will always be primarily an Asian niche game with a few of the big pool stars cherry-picking the big $$$ events. Don't see this game ever being commonplace with tables in rooms globally. Also need to change the goofy format with the timed-out matches.

I think it's based on who is signing and returning contracts the fastest.

Fedor on his livestream said that he hasn't yet had a chance to read the contract, but he is almost certain to sign it.

Sounds like Predator may be throwing in the towel. Instead, they should wave the white flag and see if they could partner with Matchroom while switching to 9 Ball. Matchroom doesn't have much of a presence in the US and they could both benefit from a partnership.
What makes you think Pred. is 'throwing in the towel'?? I agree with your sentiments but all indicators point to Predator being fully aligned with the WPA. ProSeries not being on that WPA calendar doesn't mean anything. I think Predator should go 'neutral' and let anyone play. That's not going to happen but it would be nice to see them give both warring org's the bird.

yea i forgot about there being two c8b outfits. my point was 9-ball is a young mans game and i don't really see darren making a comeback with the competition we're seeing now in 9-ball. whereas his pattern play and moving game will likely always land him in the money in 8-ball. i hope i'm wrong though

Agree 💯

Brands and politics don't belong.

As Jordan once said.
Republicans buy sneakers too

As said, noone knows the future.
But serious $$$$ are being thrown into Heyball 😊

compared to what MR can bring $$$-wise they are lightweights. how many room owners do you think will buy these tables just to watch customers get mad and walk away?? hell, most people can't make three in a row on a barbox much less one of these.

All this talk about what is right for the pros. Would be interesting to see what the players sponsers think about all of this given it looks to be somewhat restricting their players exposure as it amounts to their product usage.

You know they don't like it. They want maximum exposure 24-7/365.

i don't know about worldwide. those tables aren't cheap and it's a big step for any poolroom owner to transform, even if the demand would be there. also pretty useless for other games than 8-ball

The Chinese 8ball angle won't fly in the states. We can't get most rooms to spare the space for 9 foot tables as it is. More tables/sq. ft., more money.

I honestly don't know why anyone thinks snooker style pockets (with the rounds) are any good. They take away half the shots. Pool is so much more exciting simply due to that. It fosters aggressiveness.

If MR keeps on their path, I think 9 Ball Pool will trump Snooker, Chinese 8 ball, and any other billiards discipline in every measure. It might take 10 years, but it can happen. Filler may reach Ronnie money and celebrity status. He has the skill, the emotion, and the family angle. I think MR is looking at this. They are looking at their Snooker product, which is a niche in worldwide Billiards sports, and then looking at American style pool. They know Pool is a better game, and they can grow it to surpass Snooker.
