Jayson vs Mika - Turning Stone Semi Finals - On YouTube

I didn't see any improper behavior by Mika during this match. He had a right to be upset but I never saw him throw a cue or anything else.

Ehh, I have seen way more dominating performances then that. Mika had a few chances to do things in that match. He missed a 2-ball down 3-0 that most pros are supposed to make, and in winner breaks 9-ball that rack he should have won could have changed things quickly from there. At 7-0 Mika plays a terrible safety on a wide open ball, and paid for it as expected. He is supposed to have Jayson locked down from that 1-ball and keep control of the table.

Those two games alone make the score 5-2 instead of 7-0 IF you assume Mika gets no break and runs of his own. Winner breaks 9-ball at the pro level is expected to have some offense at the top pro level, and you are expected to get about 2 mistakes at the top level in a race to 9 like this. Jayson missed his couple shots, Mika failed to capitalize at all on chances he got and it let Jayson steamroll him.

i know it's hard to argue with mika's accomplishments, but i just can't get over his poor sportsmanship.

for example, i remember an accustats video where larry nevel beat him fair and square and he wouldn't shake his hand at the end of the match. another time, a local 'a' player had him down 6-0(race to 7) in a regional tournament and all he did was whine and cry to anybody who would listen until that player was so unraveled that he ended up losing the set.

outbursts and acting like that only ruin the image of the sport. who cares what youre feeling, suck it up and act like a gentleman. there's fans in the stands, accustats cameras and nowadays live streams. how would you feel if you were a sponsor or perspective sponsor and you were told mika was one of the best players so you watched him play only to see repeated acts of poor sportsmanship?

if the better player always won the set and went on to win the tournament, pool or any other sport wouldn't be any fun to watch. and no offense to mika, but he wouldn't have won most of the titles that he has as most of those fields always have better players than he.

i can't wait to watch 22 mins of mika getting ass kicked.

i gotta say, I've only watched the first two minutes and already i see mika setting his cue down as jayson shoots the 7 ball and start to get out of his seat while jayson cues the 9.

that's sofa king disrespectful. every shooter deserves to have their opponent sitting STILL in their chair while they're at the table.

Open your eyes, Jay.

Mika Immonen is a tool. Jayson punished him.

Watch Mika in these clips. IMO, sit in your chair and quit the stupid antics. Accept your punishment.

Following that safe, Mika kicks and leaves Jayson a shot. Which results in Jayson making the 9 for an easy out. LOLOLOLOLOL

Jayson, I hope you read AzB. Congratulations!
Mika, I also hope you read AzB and realize that **** happens. Deal with it!

ok, at around 13mins, jayson gets a 1-9 combo after mika kicks at the 1 ball. the announcer keeps saying mika didn't do anything wrong and mika shows disgust.

ok, while maybe mika didn't do anything wrong, let's look at what really happened.

1. jayson won the previous game, giving him the break in this rack.
2. jayson made a ball on the break and could see the 1 ball
3. jayson played an excellent safety on the 1 ball which lead to him getting a 1-9 combo.

would mika or any other player on the planet ever play a safety if they didn't think they would get rewarded for it? jayson played a nice safe and got rewarded, get over yourself.

additionally, i know it was cold up there, but mika doesn't even give this kid the respect to take off his jacket. that is, until he's getting whitewashed 4-5 racks into the match.

also, more mika starting to stand up mid stroke on the 9. as far as I'm concerned, if your butt leaves the seat, you might as well grab the wood and rack em up.

the great thing about this match, and probably what made jayson win was that he channeled all of this negative energy and thrived off of mika's poor sportsmanship. you could see him grinning when mika was being a douche. just added fuel to the fire.

nice job jayson!

(in case anybody is wondering)

yes, i will take any chance i can to rip into mika. i did it in another thread regarding a 14.1 match, and I'm so glad that i can chime into this thread.

would mika feed me my lunch every day of the week and twice on sunday? probably, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he's consistently a poor sport.

ok, my final thoughts.....

i don't know who upstate al is, and i don't mean any disrespect to him personally, but he needs to get his lips off of mika's nuts.

i know i said earlier that every time mika's(or any player's) butt leaves the chair, it should be a concession. here's the thing. concessions should be illegal. spectators paid to see a match 'til the end, and those less experienced don't understand a concession. sure the last rack with ball in hand was probably automatic for jayson, but we're talking the last match before the finals, theoretically the second most watched match of the tournament. let's say I'm a marketing executive from Bacardi rum and I'm watching this thinking about sponsoring this tournament next year. the closest ive gotten to a pool table is hanging a Bacardi sign near a barbox at some local bar. first i have to watch all of the shenanigans of 'one of the top players in the world, and then i see the concession and am just totally confused because i don't know what just happened. after watching the whole match, i would walk away and take my money somewhere else.

Sets like these is why alternate break looks good to people, along with 10 ball.

There should not be any 9 ball tournaments on the pro "tour".

Outside of alternate break to make things fair, maybe do a 2-3 break max before the other guy gets the break.

That was funny. I am no psychologist, and certainly not a PRO pool player...but damn, you could just see the guy stewing in his chair during the set. Getting pissed off, bad breaks, the world is against him kind of demeanor.

Does getting pissed off EVER help improve your performance at the table? I've seen many folks melt down. I've never seen it help.

Personally, I used to get mad. I've found it is MUCH better to try to put it out of the mind. Forget about it. Focus on doing my best and being calm the next time I get to the table. In the end, everyone misses. Everyone gets what is perceived as bad luck...How you deal with it seems to be the key...

Anyway, kind of a funny watch. Good shooting by the other guy too!
