Jeff Kaletta passes

Jeff Kaletta has passed away. I just received an email and was shocked to hear it. Jeff played pool in Chicago mostly at the Chicago Billiard Cafe and Chris's. I must have played thousands of games of 9ball with him throughout the eighties and nineties. He fought some adversity having lost a leg in a freak accident at work in the early eighties. He stayed upbeat nonetheless and used a prosthesis. He recently moved down to Alabama
where he had a house built. He loved to fish and was quick to make friends. I just thought I'd passed this on I'm sure there are many folks who post here who knew Jeff. I'm gonna miss him and am happy to have been able to call him my friend. My condolences go out to Patty and his family. Phil Welch
 
The first time I met Jeff was in the fall of 1988 at the Billiard Cafe. It was one of the first times I was at the place and the vultures were circling. Jeff intoduced himself and offered to play "split time" for several hours of good practice which is exactly what I was looking for at the time.

I saw him many times over the years at tournaments. He wasn't the best player but I respected his willingness to participate and sportmanship at each and every event I witnessed.

Rest in peace Jeff.

i bought two of my peterson cues from jeff in 94/95.

i wonder if ed young has heard the unfortunate news.

Yes Ed knows it was his email that was forwarded to me.
 
Thanks for the post. I met Jeff this year at the Derby. He was sitting next to me watching the players practice in the late hours. I ended up buying a Bender from him. A real nice guy. Sad to hear of his passing.

Phil....although i do not know the man i will keep his family in my prayers and may he rest in eternal peace and sit on the right hand of God.......mike
 
I also heard this from Ed/Eric Chris' about a week ago. I hung out with Jeff the last couple of years before he moved south. He was a nice & polite guy, with tons of knowledge. He will be missed (as well as his Szam Titlist!). Rest In Peace, Jeff.

his tulipwood ed young cue back he sold me years ago.he called me and i

let hem have it back at the derby this year. sorry to here this R I P JEFF.

Jack I hadn't had chance to talk to Jeff since he moved down south but while looking at some YouTube coverage of the DDC I could have sworn I saw Jeff sitting with the spectators sweating a good match. I guess I was right according to your post. Jeff was a friend of mine for well over 20 yrs.
You have to love this game of pool where you can meet interesting people and forge lifetime friendships. Jeff was a friend who will be dearly missed.

My condolences to Jeff's family and friends. I knew him from Chris's and Cafe. He was always a nice guy to me and was a gentleman at the tournaments.
