I am sorry. I thought I read somewhere on here that they were similar. Maybe just similar in looks. My mistake. I am curious though (for those that have played with a Southwest, for a good amount of time), are there any other cue makers that make a similar hitting cue (similar to Southwest)? Richard Harris (Bluegrass cues) maybe, or any others?
Just curious, but I wonder how big of a fan base Olney has (compared to some of these other cue makers, like Blue Grass for example)?
Are Olney cues not right up their with the quality of any of the elite cue makers out there? I was under the impression that Jeff Olney was one of the elite cue makers in the US.
Please be honest. Does Jeff Olney not have that big of a fan base (compared to many of the other elite cue makers)?
How popular are his cues?
Thanks.
The quality and consistency I have seen with Olney cues has been exceptional. I have owned close to 15 and played with a few more and the fit and finish on all has been *perfect* and the playability & feedback are superb. His point work is pretty amazing, too.
As for how they compare with SW cues, I personally find the hits to be similar despite what a couple guys said here. They both have stiff crisp hits and move whitey with great ease. Both give that nice <<ping>> when striking the cue ball and the feedback is terrific.
You said you wrote this because you read others have stated they felt these two brands hit similarly and I have read the same and agree. Not exactly the same hit but def strong similarities.
I'm curious from the guys who feel these two brands don't hit anything alike, can you provide some detail on the differences you have observed?
At the end of the day, hit and feedback are very subjective, I know.
I think JO cues are the absolute best value in custom cues under $1k, bar none.
there are other great values in this range out there no doubt, like Jensen, Diveney and Joss to name just a few but I still go with Jeff Olney, all day long.

all imo, of course.
best,
