Jerry Forsyth Takes a Stab at Understanding the ABP

effects of seeding ?

So let us imagine that next year the Derby City Classic moves to a seeded format. Two of the tournaments, banks and one pocket, had over 400 entrants. 9 ball had nearly 300.
It is long enough odds for an advanced amateur to cash in a pro event. Seeding would easily drop that by another 30 percent. More top pros left in the later rounds equals less for advanced amateurs.
So what happens to that great event and others like it, when the hundreds of players who had only a slight hope of cashing realize that has been reduced by seeding? Can events like DCC, SBC and Turning Stone continue without amateur participation?
ABP is trying to carve out the lions share for their top ranked members. They need to focus on growing the game. They fail to realize that entry fees make the event happen and that they cannot control whether players choose to participate.
The cycle is more players = more $= more sponsorship= bigger payouts and more of them. This is the only thing that will ever work.

The promoters that cooperate with the ABP set bad examples.

If they didn't cooperate that would show that the ABP are nothing without them.

Boycott their events.

Actually, we should boycott ABP events! Let'em try to run a tournament without us "field fillers".

When have they ever held their own event? ABP is a facebook group. My 12 year old cousin has a facebook group, its called The Little Wiggles. All they do is post links of Wiggles videos.

They just take other people's tournaments and "sanction" it.

You're correct. Forgot to place a "roll eyes" after the ABP events. Guess the thought is, if they ever get their own events! Thanks for the post.

Right now promoters are supporting people with bad habits. The addicts are the ABP and promoters are enabling them.

We have to stop the promoters. Talking to addicts is impossible, but if you eliminate their enablers, they will have nowhere to go.
