Jerry Forsyth Takes a Stab at Understanding the ABP

Springiness even.

Perhaps Charlie is just a lowly peeon as was suggested...
I wonder if anyone actually believes that.

Oh man what a headache. i really cant sum that up but i think the phrase 'winging it' would be the most important in there if i could.

Perception IS reality my friend!

He might be the nicest guy. Till he decides to be king $hit of the pool world that is.

Really? I thought he came off closed-minded in his predictable "it's that dern Charlie Williams again!" to Johnny Archer. To each his own!

Agree with most of what you're getting at in the rest. They desperately need to iron out these bizarre contradictions.

I will answer these comments later.
I have had several conversations with the ABP 'boys' and they just have selective hearing.

As far as Archer's comments on seeding - wait until you hear the 'rest of the story'.

I am not going to waste much time on this stuff. I have a business to run and no one want pool to succeed more than me. But this is the wrong track.

The only thing that the ABP has accomplished is getting the FREE ENTRY to the US Open rescinded for any past winners. That was the reaction that Barry had to the ABP and their demands and remains this year as well. I know of one past champion that is not going to be attending the US Open this year because of it. End result, this past champion didn't put the US Open on his calendar and now not only is he missing out but so are the fans that would enjoy watching him play.

I like Johnny Archer as a person - but this ABP is more disorganized than the WPBA was at the end of their run, and that is saying something. Why would Johnny or anyone from the ABP sit down for an interview with anyone if they really couldn't answer any of the questions? And then to list someone like Oscar as a Treasurer/Secretary and afterwards for Oscar to state he doesn't like that the ABP has an East Coast bias along with no real organization, well that just says it all right there.

props to Jerry for doing the interview and attempting to get some questions answered. Obviously Jerry is a fan of Mike Wallace because his questions and points were very well directed.

Seeding will decrease participation and what little is left in pro pool will cease to exist. If you are in the top 10 in the USA just matchup already. I thought pool players were supposed to have heart. Sounds like the ABP is looking for a handicap from younger pros and shortstops. Someone needs to starts an advanced amateur tournament and ban the ABP.

What???????????????

And I quote your above thread....

"And they invented Bonus Ball"

Who is THEY????????????????

A writer, huh? Hmm, interesting!

What do you think about the serial comma?

I am NOT a writer. At one point I wrote for fun but never as a profession. Nowadays, I work in a large editorial group of a major publishing company. I find it appalling when people do NOT use the serial comma. Just sayin'.

Now we're talking turkey! You're speaking my language.

All that would cost the APA $3,000,000 in prizes and another $2,000,000 in organizing. That is not 5% of the money they collect yearly.

I am also becoming quite a fan of Charlie Williams. No one has anything nice to say about him on this site so he must be a great person.

Those two lumps of wurd right there kind of sum up that post.. no sense, no logic.

As for the "professional writer" that can't form a proper sentence, begins sentences with "But" and can't correctly apostrophize "its" in a conjugated usage, yeaaahh..

JAM and Mia are way ahead of me. I just deal with numbers all freakin day long. :(

I say lock them all in the TAR studio and no one gets out until there is a tour with at least one $25k added event per month and everyone agrees on points and seeding.

The 25K added and the "everyone agrees" could be a stumbling block.

In addition, if I drove 1,000 miles to watch one of these events and the pros started cutting deals, savers or whatever you want to call them and I knew I wasn't seeing their best effort I'd never go back.

I really hope they get it together. With this kind of disorganization, in 5 more years they might just be playing each other for smokes.

It does not explain what the ABP is. It shows why pro pool is so disorganized.

Pool now also needs a proofreader. Fonts, spacing.....

What is AZ Billiards relation to the ABP? AZ has put many ABP press releases on their main page. The ABP seems to be 3 or 4 pool players that collected $100 from 11 or 12 pros at a tournament 2 years ago and started a facebook page. And they want tournaments to be seeded. And they don't like the BCA...but the president of the BCA attends their tournaments. And they invented Bonus Ball. So to clarify what the ABP is all about they do an interview with Jerry Forsyth. In the interview two of the ABP's members state they are unhappy with the ABP.

Round and round we go.

Pool Leagues have cornered the business of pool. The league players are the actual people who would be fans of pool supporting a pro tour. But why should they be paying fans supporting pool players when they can "live the life of a pro pool player for a week in vegas." Without the homelessness and withdrawal symptoms. ZING!

You need money to help the pro's get a tour going, I'll get you money...

250,000 members paying $10 a week to play to the APA. That is $2.5 million a week in dues. 50 weeks a year is $125,000,000! Most people in the APA play more then one night so that is a low number. Also there are $25 yearly dues....another $6,250,000 a year generated. We're at $130 million+! Then there is the BCA, NAPL and countless other leagues.

Does every pro pool tournament in the US even pay out 5% of that number? $6,500,000? Are there even 5 tournaments in the US that pay out $200,000 in total purses each? Do all the tournaments in America pay that out. Is $6.5 million in entry fees collected by tournament directors in a year for the whole US?

The APA and all the other leagues need to get together and start a tour for the pro's. There should be one professional ranking system and have 12 tournaments a year. Make pool exciting again, bring luck back into pool. 9 ball breaks count. No more called shots. 20 second shot clocks. HIRE TOURNAMENT RACKERS!!! Just with the league membership watching they could get it on TV and generate ad revenue. The pro's could do PR in each state and be available to the leagues when they are not traveling to the monthly tours. Pool will become a job for all the pro's who do not work. If the APA put $250,000 into a 128 player field and made each player pay $1,000 entry fee there would be $378,000 to be given out each month. 65 to 128 get paid $500. 1 to 64 get paid the remaining $346,000. Or they could take $100K from this $346,000 each month and have the year end final event have a purse of $1,500,000 with only the top 64 people in the ranking qualified to play. The APA could do a final 64 bracket with all of its membership participating. Most correct bracket gets $100,000.

All that would cost the APA $3,000,000 in prizes and another $2,000,000 in organizing. That is not 5% of the money they collect yearly.

There is an idea. Do with it what you will.

I really believe pool is exactly where it should be. In the gutter. I am extreemly pleased to see the progress pool has made the last 100 years.

The PBT throughout the '90s.......I know, i know.....there were issues. Let's not start picking through that though please. That was a least a bona fide/recognized tour. That's all I was getting at.
