Jersey Red Shot

I just finished the book "Hustler Days". In it they describe a shot made famous by Jersey Red. It is a kiss-kick shot he used in one-pocket. The book describes it poorly and I am not exactly sure what the shot is.

Could someone please diagram it on the WEI, tell me how to shoot it, or explain it better?

Thanks!

My good friend and teacher and genius Eddy Robin did a one pocket book, some said it was a book of trick shots, not really, It had about every tough shot you could imagine, when I went through the book and mastered every shot, it did take my game up to a new level, just downloading all of that data and shots into my cpu banks. Mine is a nice leather bound purple cover, big book in size, they are now very hard to find and getting expensive. Eddie gave me mine so I don't know what they used to sell for but I think around $45. You see some scary prices now floating around on it.

You can do the same thing with again my good friend and teacher, another genius, Ray Martins 99 shots book. Pool is full of genius's in this game.

I dont know how to use WEI but Ill try to explain it. The object ball is on the bottom rail close to your opponents pocket in one pocket. The cueball is on your side above that object ball. With inside english you cut the top of the OB and the cueball comes off the long rail and kisses the object ball towards your pocket

There is another interesting one pocket shot. Grady Mathews talked about it once. Playing one pocket when you are faced with a shot with the cueball facing the object ball towards your opponents pocket and both balls are near the bottom rail and the cross bank is unmakeable without a kiss. Fire it hard into your opponents pocket towards the tip of the pocket and it will rebound back towards yours.

jersey reds shot

Funny you should ask this as my friend and I were talking about where i had seen it. I first saw this shot on a sony playstation game. I dont remember which game it was but you could play a video of "machine gun" lou battera. He showed all kinds of shots and also ran a rack of straight in under 60 sec. If anyone knows about this game I would like to know what it was called.

RED, and shots,
The shot that red made famous is with the OB, being off the end rail a little bit, close to your opponents pocket, you shoot at it and drive it to the end rail and the cue ball comes from the side rail and kiss-kicks it to your pocket.

Red came to my houston shop 6 days a week for 20 years, and we played one almost everyday. Taught me a lot.

Another shot Red made famous was you got a ball frozen to the end rail about 6 or 8 " from your pocket, you both need two,now your left with a ball heading straight across from the end rail, about 4" off the end rail, with CB straight behind it, you shoot toward the other side rail straight, just below the pocket, and draw the CB, just in front of your pocket, and the OB, comes back from the other side, and kisses the CB and it goes in your hole, kicking the cue ball off your side rail about 18" to the middle of the table,[you hope] and shoot the rail shoot for the win. Great person and a great shot maker he was.

Another shot grady is good at, is you need one, and the OB is off the end rail about 2 to 3", with cue ball straight behind it, fire it at your opponents side rail, miss the kiss, go three rail to your hole. Risky shot but can be done. Seen grady do this for the cheese, many times.

I got this shot off of virtual pool for the computer, lou butera did a bunch of trick shots for a demo and it was on the game, this was my favorite shot of all the ones he did, from what i saw on the game he had the object ball on the diamond, cue ball 2 ball lengths off the middle diamond, thin the object ball, and the cue ball comes back an hits the objectball, double kissing it in off the rail into the opposite corner pocket, and he attributed the shot to jersey red. I made it numerous times, not sure about how you r supposed to set it up but that's what worked best for me.

The game you are referring to is Virtual Pool 2 I believe. Could possibly be 1, but I'm pretty sure it's 2.

This is the way I have had most success with the shot:

I guess you could do it from farther away from the pocket, like the previous examples, but why? If you want to sell out, you could just kick at the ball!!
