Jim Murnak case and the long wait.

I ordered a GL2122 from Jim on July 10 of last year with a 6 to 8 week lead time and I'am still waiting. Anyone else having to endure this kind of a wait. I have contacted Jim on numerous occasions and he is always very polite and seems to be a truly class guy but has never met his new ship date. I know I am going to be very happy with my case but this wait is killing me. Just want to find out if others have experienced this kind of a delay so I can fell better (as in misery, loves company).

Yes, I have heard about this from other forum members, but when they got the case, they all said it was well worth the extra wait!!

I ordered a case too from his Vintage line back in June of last year. I was told about six weeks for completion. Paid in full and still don't have the case. He finally got back to me a few weeks ago and said the case was half finished.

Does

he have 'raw materials' delay? or is he just backlogged that much? I like his cases, but 1.5 years is a long time to wait for a case!!

I did have to wait 6 months on "It's George' case being made for me in the past.

No deposit, paid in full. I'am not trying to bash him and I'am sure the long wait will be worth it. Have never heard anything bad about the quality of his work.

I agree. I'm not bashing Jim either. Everyone I've spoken to about it has said the wait is worth it.

I ordered my vintage line case back on June 31st of last year, just before you did and just recieved my case in the beginning of December. I was a little perturbed by this, but the quality of the case made up for it. Jim was very congenial over the phone, I think he's just backlogged that much.

I wasn't implying you guys were bashing Mr. Murnak. Sorry if it seemed as though I was. I was only curious about the deposit/no deposit. You guys seem to be the patient type. Very refreshing to see. I am sure you'll get your cases and they'll surely be worth it. Murnaks are highly recommended.

Again, my apologies if I implied you were bashing him.

Maybe Jim shouldn't be taking full pre-payments if he's so far behind. Also, it should be him contacting you to let you know what's going on. That's just a matter of being professional and polite. His work, obviously, is quality stuff.

This is not unusual for ANY custom work. I have 2 Murnack cases (and counting) and each one took longer than Jim's estimate. (Sounds like darn near every hi-end cuemaker that I know of)

90%+ of Jim's work is custom. He doesn't use cheap Chinese labor, nor does he make a bunch of cases then add a name or change a pocket and call it custom.

After you pay, he begins work. His leather is not pre-cut or even pre-dyed. He'll start that - for each & every case - after you agree on the design specifics. Because of this, I have no issues with him demanding full pre-pay.

Not mentioning any names, but there's a guy currently making the same old "wrap a piece of leather around tubes with 2 rows of rivets down the back" kinda case - in China (average cost 8 cents/dollar) - then selling them here for $600-1200. Well, OK. More power to him.

Jim Murnack is a MASTER leather worker. He has blessed the pool community by making cases for us. Once you recieve your case, and you examine the construction, stitching, overall quality, you will be so pleased.

Murnacks are the Rolls Royce. Each hand-made by the finest craftsman.

It still amazes me that he doesn't charge double what the other guys do.

Congrats on choosing a Murnack. I know the wait is frustrating, but it really will be worth it!

<EDIT> (I do agree that he could make better delivery estimates, but again, it's not unusual for true custom work)

Current situation

I have to thank everyone for being so understanding. I have been bogged down for the last 3 months or so with an incredible amount of very complicated cases. I have no excuses except that I have been trying to get help that I can trust and I have found a few guys that will help me get back to a normal time. I really appreciate the slack that everyone is cutting me. I have pretty much gotten rid of the really long back log and will soon be shipping on a better schedule. I can't tell by the forum names who you are but you should call me and if they are that late I will be able to give you an exact shipping date now and keep to it.

Jim

Looking forward to getting the Black 1x2 I just ordered.
I will check in on you when my time permits (maybe even in person since Brooklyn is where I grew up).

I was quoted 6 weeks, I waited 8 to get mine....

WELL worth the wait.... Order one and you'll be happy....

Truly hand-made things take time, this being one of them...

I bought a case from Jim a couple of years ago and I still get compliments on it all the time. I don't remember how long it took, or even if it was late, but double the time would have been worth it.

I talked to him a few times on the phone and as you can see from his post he is a very nice person to do business with.

The Wait

The wait is worth it, one of my really good freinds has the Batman Case and it is so good looking:cool: , I sold my Talisman so I could order one from Jim

Once I get it, I KNOW I will be very happy

Thanks for doing such great work Jim
