Jim Murnak cases

They both make nice cases,but for 300 bucks I got a case that would have been 800 or more from JJ. I have had the case since valley forge and every time I take it out I just have to say wow,.the leather is the nicest piece i have ever seen and I have been to vf,dcc,us 9ball and Jim's cases are the best I have seen at a show,only time will tell, but JJ started out the same way and Jim will be big in a few years also IMO,get one now before the prices go up.
 
Especially for the many people who prefer a hard tubed case to the cloth that Jack now uses.

At this point, I have little interest in trying to convince anyone why one case is classier than the other, but, I need to clarify this point in case people just got misled about Jack's cases.

Jack changed from individual PVC tubes for the shafts and butts to one single, custom PVC tube surrounding all of the cues. The advantage of course is the pound and a half reduced weight (that's one full cue with two shafts worth of less weight). The disadvantage? None. The individual tubes were a leftover design that used commonly availaible materials. IMO, they were overkill. Unless you plan on running your case over, bring your cues on safari or a rodeo. Most of us don't do that.

I ordered a Murnak case, I should have my Vintage in 2 or 3 weeks. I bought it cause it had a different style, I also got it in Blackcherry with inset tubes to fit cues with joint protectors. I was looking for something different in style and found it with a Vintage case, it has a style of an old golf bag the way the pockets are setup, it looks really classy. I got a 3x6 with my initials and silver hardware. I can't wait to get it. :D

I pointed that out because I have known several people that, after having the new "lite" case, preferred the individually tubed cases. It was just their preference for whatever reason. In fact, Jack has been asked to make more of the old model, but prefers to make only the cloth type. I have been present when he was asked and have was told by him that others have also asked. I expect that you are right, that there isn't much, if any, difference in protection, and the cloth linings may well be more than adequate, but some people are more comfortable with one or the other. Its nice to have a choice and personally I don't think its a buy or not issue, just another point or difference. They are both great guys with great products. Another option.

I didn't think I was bad mouthing anyone's cases, just stating that Jack's are the best. That's not to say Jim's aren't nice, they just aren't as nice as the Justis cases right now. Sure down the road things can change, but right now...

Again, it really doesn't matter to me what people prefer or don't prefer.

My post was specifically just to make sure that people didn't misunderstand or get misled by your statement, in case they thought that Jack was somehow not using hard tube protection.

Simply put...

Justis cases are the standard for which all these type of cases are measured. That in itself says it all. Right now the argument is not Murnak vs NY case, Guiseppe, Swift etc.. it's Justis. The fact is Jacks cases are still the gold standard.

Some people also forget that as a "newcomer" the price has to be right just to sell a few cases and generate "buzz". Which is exactly whats happening here. If his prices were on par with Jacks, who in their right mind would buy JM's over JJ's? This is a very similar situation to cues, and it happens all the time. When JM asks (if he does, or makes it that long) prices comperable to JJ's then you can talk. But right now, Jacks cases have history, and they last. They are THE benchmark.

BTW I think Jacks cases are exceptionally well designed, and asthetically superior to any case on the market.

Sam is officially shut down. I don't know if it is permanent or temporary, but currently there are no more Engles cases being built.

With all due respect, this is one argument in which you clearly do NOT live up to your name as you are not DEADON!

Jim Murnak may make a great case but to say that he is superior to Jack Justis is almost blasphemous. Justis cases are in a class all their own and that class is a notch above Jim Murnak. That is not say that Jim makes a bad case. He doesn't. But Jack is the king of the case world in my opinion. And as far as the lining goes, I get a little tired of hearing so many say that they disapprove of the cloth lining over the PVC tubing. Their arguments are that the tubing provides better protection. Well then, I gotta ask... what the hell are you people doing with your case and cues that this would really be an issue?

I use a 2x4 It's George and when I've got both butts and all shafts in there, they don't budge! They don't bang up against one another or smack into the side of the case. They fit perfectly with no wiggle room. Just as good as the PVC tubing.

Owned a beautiful 2 X 4 Justis myself. My only disappointment in the design/use was the very narrow slits in the pockets to access stuff. Felt like I needed needle nose pliers to probe around to find anything.

Have not seen a Murnak but would like to inspect one - sure like the pics. Ordered a Whitten 2X4 with one loooong pocket down the entire side. Prefer the more subdued style & glove quality leather. Love it and another 2X2. :)
