Jim Rempe Training ball

I want to get the Aramith Super Pro balls. Is the Jim Rempe Training ball that comes in the Super Pro Value set worth the extra money? I am a beginning player.

The only thing the ball is good for is making sure the english you applied is exactly the same as you thought it was. You can do this with any object ball also. Get the TV set.

I've found the measle CB to be more effective since you can watch the english in action...but I know some others hate it.

How much extra is the set with the Rempe ball?

Edit: my friends were playing with a measles cue ball the other day and were a little bothered by the fact it was slightly larger than the object balls. Be sure to get the right sized one if you get one.

The Value set w/ Rempe ball, measles ball & ball cleaner was $18 more than the standard Super Pro set. It seemed for only $18 extra to get the Rempe training ball & the measles ball.

I would get the super pro set then the training ball and measles ball separate.

The training ball is great for learning to hit higher or lower for more follow or draw. Set the ball up exactly level, then hit the different numbers on the ball higher or lower and see how far the ball goes forwards or backwards after the shot (Using the same speed of stroke and follow through.)

The measles ball is great for seeing what the cue ball is doing. Is it rolling backwards? Does it roll backwards, then slide, then begin a forward roll? Is it spinning left/right? Etc. You can easily see what the cue ball is doing at the far end of the table. And since you can see what it is doing, you can also see if it is doing what you intended.

Buy your set from Nielson's. They are in the Wanted to buy section. I have the Pro set that I purchased from them. For the money it was worth getting the set. As far as the ball.. I don't use it. Someone told me that it has a special surface that makes the chalk stick to it and if you don't remove the chalk it will stain it.

I am far enough advance to know where to hit and what english does. I do like the measle ball,.

The Rempe Training Ball is worth it, no matter how you get it. Using an object ball, measles ball, or other balls CANNOT give you all the feedback the Rempe training ball can.

You can mark up other balls to attempt to do the same thing, but even permanent marker wears off. The Rempe Training ball is less than $20. Cheap investment, and it will tell you a lot.

Using it in practicing the break alone is worth a hundred times its cost.

Anyone inerested in a Rempe training ball with manual, a red circle cueball, and a copy of Monk"s I Came To Win can PM me.

All three for $25, shipping included.

Sorry for the Wanted/For Sale type of post in the main forum. I'll edit the post later if items are sold so others don't wasted time PM'ing me.

Just some advice that doesn't answer your question (but I do agree that the training ball is worth the cost).

If play/practice at your table and also play in leagues and tournaments, I'd recommend using the same ball setup that your leagues/tournaments do. If you play with cheap balls at the poolhall, practice with the same thing at home. If you play with a big cue ball in the poolhall (not much of these around?) play with one at home. I am even trying to let my balls get a bit dirtier so they play the same way as the ones in our poolhall.

I love the measles cue ball, but I think it plays differently than my aramith bar table ball, so I don't use it much.

I just threw in the Monk book because I had extra copies. Ten bucks for the Rempe and a red circle is a bit low- probably cost half that to ship it.

I think you (Scott Lee) came out to Sacramento last year for the Jamboree. If you're there this year, I'll give them to you for a 15-30 minute lesson if no one wants to buy them before you respond. My stroke is more crooked than Enron's Mr. Lay some days.

Mr. Lee is right, BTW. Monk's material isn't the most impressive stuff I've seen. How does W. Constanza feel about this other "Monk", I wonder? I'm sure he'd like to match up for the $$

Bud...Yeah, I was just kiddin'! Wholesale on those two is $22! Yep, I was at Hard Times then, just for a couple days, visiting my buddy Tom Suarez. Next time come up and introduce yourself, and I'll be happy to show you a couple things gratis! LOL BTW, Tim Miller wouldn't touch that bet with a 10-foot pole!
