Joe Barringer - Cue Building Dvd's

Competition or free knowledge is not the problem here, more players are needed as our market are drying up fast. We probably lost hundreds if not thousand of Pool Hall in the last 2-3 years. Players are not coming up fast enough.....we don't have anybody marketing our sport/game to the proper market (People with Money). We need to have more guys/gals enjoying this game...if it happens everyone will win. Right now it's a zero sum game...we'll not making our pie larger...it's been shrinking for years now. Personally, I like BCA and these similar organizations to step up to the plate and take on corporation to help with Charity causes....Get people involved into this game.

When our market is as big as golf..etc.....for guys to spend $800 on a set of learning dvd for making cues etc...would not be a problem!! Why not when you can make it back easily? That what missing folks...we need to look at the big picture!! Any ideas to revive our games??? I've got a business plan..but need 200K to start :)). Involved fortune 1000 organizations all with the objective of helping out charity orginazation and improving the image of our games. IPT got the concept right to make it more popular...now someone with money needs to take it to the new step.

Whats everyone opinion on his complete DVD series for $800 WORTH IT? or Not!

So Rd, what did you decide to do?

good luck in any case. Jimbo.

About Joe's videos, and deciding if they are worth it. One thing to try is Figure out the one area you feel you need help in, buy that particular video. If it helps great, buy another one, if not, your only out $90. Put it on Ebay, and recoup some of your loss, call it a day and move foward.
Another way to look at cost verses worth. How much is a cuebuilder's hourly rate if you break it down? The whole set is roughly 16 hrs of video, broken down, that is $50 per hour of video. If you watch them twice, it's now $25 per hour of video, and so on. If each video saves a minimum of approx. 1.5 hrs of labor due to learning something from each DVD, times 8 DVDs, they are almost totally paid for themselves. If you learn how to do something better, therefore less redo's and oops, you make the value back as there will be less waste of materials and labor. I have watched Chris's videos about 7-8 times each at least and read his book 4-5 times, and still reference certain chapters, and has saved me from making terrible (costly) mistakes before I made them. Plus if I call Chris or Joe with a question about their technique in the book / videos, They will help.

This has nothing to do with my work. I don't sell construction techniques on how to do things. It's against everything I believe in, this you already know. It's about everyone who sells HOW TO DVDs.
Let's say I don't know nothing, I say it all the time. You and the other marketers, Please show me some close ups of your cues, that will make me say I Have to have this! I'm not challenging your motives for selling them. I am challenging all of you to show me something other than the usual sales speech, show me actual pictures UPCLOSE.
If you offer a mitering system, You me your miters, .018 and .020 don't count show me .035's
If you overlap veneers, Show it
If you offer a full splice, Show it.
If you offer re cuts or re milled, Show it.
Give me some examples to want your product.
That's not asking for to much is it?
This is not a close up

You said it goes against all you believe in to sell cue building info. So therefore it would also be wrong for you to buy any, so I won't bother shooting close ups to try to sell you something that you would not buy anyways.
I think your point is you do good veneer work. Your secondary point seems to be that we must be near the best in the world at something to teach it. Mike I give brief instructions with enough detail to show someone how to do a job and fully expect many to improve on my methods. I already applauded you for doing good point work. You have now proven it with your pictures. So I applaud you again. It is obvious I can not teach you how to do better veneer work. You have no interest in full splice work, you know how to do boring, coring and use indicator read outs, I am guessing, so there is not much on my DVD's you would be interested in. You are a established cuemaker. So you need very little help. It was not always that way. You used to acknowledge those who helped you when you got started. That was a good thing to you then, but now that you have got really good at certain parts of cuemaking, you have made it clear you do not want to help anyone learn much.
Mike you and I have been friends for many years. Kevin Wright and I have been friends many years longer. Kevin showed me some things when I first started when another local cuemaker would not. I never forgot the favor Kevin did for me. You did not learn everything on your own either. I have picked up some pointers from you and shared pointers with you through the years. Please don't become the type of super secretive cuemaker you expressed so much distaste for in our earlier years of communication.
