Hi PT, when I said that I had just found this thread, I obviously meant, since you posted a BD wish. You have a good memory, nice tidbit on the origins of snooker. I guess a belated Happy Birthday to the great game of Snooker is in order.
You’re right, it was The Breaks Came My Way. Al was the owner of Dufferins wasn’t he? I purchased my first cue at their show room on Titan Avenue(??). Was Terry Haddock also involved during that time or did that come later?
I have attached some books I have on Joe Davis. I also have some memorabilia that have Joe’s name spelt Davies. Do you know if they are knock offs and they through an “e” into the name, to eliminate Joe suing them?
Take Care
Mike
Well, it's that time of year again........
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOE DAVIS
Mike...
I'm going to test my memory from 'The Breaks Came MY Way'......
...When Joe was a lad in Chesterfield, he won his first snooker tournament....
...the first prize was a set of snooker balls.
On his way home, it was late for a kid, he was stopped by a policeman, who wanted to know
what he had in the bag....Joe said "Balls.".....
" In my enthusiasm for brevity, I neglected to say 'snooker'."
And referring to the misnomer 'Davies'......I used to use that name in my rube act when
I was a kid ( I didn't have to change much to be a rube

)...
.." I'll play you for a hundred a game, I know lots about snooker, I saw John, er, uh, Joe
Davies run a 160 once!"
"You can't run 160 at snooker.

"
" Oh yeah?.....let's make it $200 a game."
