Joe dimaggio was not his real name ,it was vincent something,i heard today in my home pool room, dimaggio had gotten throwed out of mosconis pool room,i think in philly, because dimaggio always tried to play mosconi and mosconi wanted no parts of joe dammagio,so if anyone knows any stories or information about the pool player that went by the name joe dimaggio, let hear it,please!

Joe Dimaggio

I crossed paths with him several times (late sixties early seventies) when he was traveling w/Peter Rabbit.Peter was the better player.Dimaggio was nowhere near Mosconi's speed. His real last name was an Italian name which was similar to Dimaggio so people called him that. I new his real name at one time but I can't recall it now.he was a decent player but had to pick his spots.I believe he died in Baltimore in the late seventies. He was from Philadelphia.

Dimaggio and Peter Rabbit

Joe Dimaggio lived with me and Sugar Shack Johnny in Ft Lauderdale in the mid 60s for a few weeks. We lived above the Sugar Shack Bar. Vince was his real name. I forgot the last name, but it had nothing to do with Dimaggio. He was named Joe Dimaggio for something Dimaggio related but I have also forgotten what that was. He was from Allingers in Philly. He was a top 1pkt player on the 5 x 10's. But beating Mosconi playing one pocket, even on a 5 x 10 was probably a stretch. However, he was at least a ball over Peter Rabbit, especially on a 5 x 10. Rabbit could barely beat Bobby Strauss at the Congress Bowl in Miami. Never made any money with Vince because he hated sucker action. He couldnt play a sucker more than a couple of games before he would offer the guy a spot if he would raise the bet. We would be down in a bar playing 9 or 8 ball and after a couple games Vince would try to lug the guy to the Congress Bowl to play One pocket where he said he would also spot him.
That usually ended the action.

He was a chain cigar smoker, and died in Baltimore of a heart attack -- while he was in the saddle! So he at least went out in style.
