Does anyone have either the Joe Porper Signature Series Vinyl square or oval case? I am thinking about getting one and was wondering what you all think about it?

I have a Porper 2x4 case and for the money it's a great case. It's not too heavy and the short and long pockets hold all of my stuff with room to spare. I've owned Justis, Thomas, Whitten, and It's George cases and the Porper suits me just fine. I used to think I had to have an expensive case, but I don't anymore.

Thanks for your opinion. It will help me with my decision. I think all I have to do is figure out whether to get the square or oval Joe Porper case!

I used to own a 2x2 case.
It's nice and protective but I you can only insert the butt joint down which I don't like.
My case was bought 11 years ago, back then joint protectors were not that common, some cues will not fit in it with joint protectors as it is too short, other cues that have a thick joint won't fit either...

If you ask me, for the money there are better cases out there.

this is how the interior of the case looked like

Not to offend anyone, but I was very disappointed in the Porper cases. I had a McDermott "Shooters Collection" 2X2, and went looking for a decent 2X4 under $100. When I opened a Porper and saw the raw uncovered foam under the lid, I closed it up and started looking elsewhere, as I knew that would bother me forever. I wound up with a used Instroke Buffalo for under $200 that I am very, very happy with. Look up John Barton's recent thread about winning a Jay Flowers style case, post #88. Sterling has a new case coming out, designed by John, that may be well worth a look- http://forums.azbilliards.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=561&ppuser=20861

Any opinions on a J&J Case?

I guess it's really depends what you're going to put in it...
If it's a $100 cue then the J&J case will do fine but I wouldn't want my McDaniel in it...

If you're looking for good protection for a good price then I think that nothing beats the Instroke Premier cases.
They are made of vinyl so they are cheaper then the leather cases but provide the same interior and protection.

I'm just trying to find a 3X5 for under $100 to store my cues at my house. Don't need anything fancy as I rarely take my cues out of the house to play. I am getting a new j/b cue (probably either a McD Stinger or J&J) and my current 2x2 from Ozone Billiards isn't big enough.

Some food for thought...
A good quality case can serve you for many years.
You might not need it now but maybe in the future.

IMO a case for storing cues should be just as protective as an everyday case but maybe with less pockets...

Love My Porper 2x4

I have a Porper 2x4 oval case and I really like it ! I like the oval design because its compact and can fit easily into a locker at a poolhall or under/ behind the seat of your car/truck . I also like that is very light yet protects your cues very well . When I got mine the molding inside of the lid was kinda smashed a bit . I called and they sent me a new molding to replace the smashed one without any hassle . Seems like good customer service and a great case to me .

Good luck with what ever case you choose !

Porper Cases

Joe makes a good case and I've had a few. I do like the Giuseppe cases a little better because I can put cues and shafts in joint first. Plus, they seem to accomodate a bit longer cue or one with joint protectors. I've had a 2 X 4 Giuseppe for seven years and it's been great. Good value for the money.

If you want to spend a little more you can looking at the Sterling ultra leather rolling cases. You can get a 2x4 for $119 and a 4x8 for $129.

I finally broke down and bought a Sterling Pro in leather. I will have to admit that the only reason why I ended up ordering this one is because I ordered an ultra leather in black. They messaged me saying it was out, but said they had one in black/wine. Apparently there computers didn't match up with real inventory because they told me they were out of those too. They gave me a 10% discount on whatever I ordered so I splurged and bought the leather one and they gave me an extra 10% off making it well worthwhile.

I had a 2x4 Guiseppe for years. I finally had to retire it because the pockets were tearing from years of use.

Since Sterling was mentioned I guess I will take this opportunity to introduce Sterling's offering in this style of case. I think that you all will be well pleased with the new Sterling cases coming in.

I have taken the Porper style and expanded it a bit by using a polypropylene tube of our own composition and filling it with fabric and foam rubber. This provides a cushy interior protecting all the cue parts and an impact resistant exterior. The bottoms of the cases are now made with non-slip rubber. The straps on the case are also backed with rubber so that they stay where you put them.

The lids are also made of polypropylene tubing lined with foam rubber. This allows for longer cues and still provides excellent protection.

The bottoms of the cases are secured by wood and EVA foam so that there is no chance that a cue can poke through the bottom. (many of you know this experience) Cues are protected securely from any damage to the pins or any other part. Essentially this is the same interior that I have developed and am shipping with the JB Cases. The cases will hold 31.5" easily at zipper level and 32" if the cue sticks up above the zipper a little bit.

Here are some pictures of the new and improved Sterling classic cases -

This is the STH5BK 2x3 - $69 or street price about $55

I like the fact that the cue goes in that way. If it goes bumper down, the cue rattles around inside of the case. The Porper tubes are tapered to prevent that from happening. Plus, they have the best warranty in the business. I broke my strap once and called Joe. He never asked what, where, why.... just sent me a new strap.
