Joe Porper Custom Cue Stick...1989...One of a Kind

I inherited my Grandfather's Porper pool cue upon his passing in the 90's. My grandpa(Troy..aka 'Hubba Hubba') lived in Reno and loved pool. He is responsible for giving me the 9-ball bug back in the 80's and 90's. He loved playing the weekly, monthly local tourneys along with the annual Reno Sands 9-ball Pro-Am tourney. He had to have the best pool cue around so he had his pool cue custom made by Joe Porper.
Since moving to St Louis in the late 90's, the Porper Cue has been sitting in the authentic Joe Porper Cue Case in my attic. Troy shot pool w/ his Porper for 2-3 years. The shafts are straight and true. Conical joints. 8 points. Not sure what the wrap is made of. The butt end is has a pic of a lovely lady. The laminate around the butt end has a few small pieces of laminate covering missing.
Sorry the pics aren't the best, i will try and post better pics soon. I also will get the measurements.
Any comments about this Porper Cue is welcome. I am very happy w/ my Muecci cue, so I'm thinking about possibly putting this up for sale.

Joe porper has made the industry more diverse. His products are innovative and useful. The cues he made are among the best. I hope you can keep that one. I have one from the same era.

I am very surprised you would consider selling this in favor of a Meucci.

Very cool cue, with a very cool story, and a family history.

I wouldn't want to guess the value, I don't know the Porper cues well. It is very unique I think so you want to find the right buyer for an optimal price.

I think your cue is scrimshawed, am I correct.

I have a nice Porper, late 1980s vintage and it has a 3/8x10 pin but not the conical pin, it is a standard long big pin 3/8 x10 anyway, hope you love yours. With your family history, I would keep this cue, once something like this is gone it is gone, forever. We are not talking thousands of dollars, but there is definitely value and money here, but this is a cue you could keep and play with forever, pass it along to 2 or 3 more generations of your family and each one would have something to talk about.

I have a Perry Weston that has some WOW, scrimshaw work into Ivry and it is a real eye catcher and gets lots of peoples attention and they always ask lots of questions.

This Im sure will happen with your Porper and this will always remind you of your father each time someone asks you about the scrimshaw work on your Porper.

Thanks to all for your thoughtful opinions. It is a beautiful cue and shoots like none other that i've ever used. Since I don't play pool more than once a year, I've decided to sell my Porper. My grandfather would have wanted his Porper played with instead of sitting around. I'm going to take some newer pics with a better camera and most likely post on EBAY. Again, thanks for the kind comments. All you pool hustlers in this forum are great!

Glad I read this post, I kept seeing your gradfather in the audience in AccuStats matches and the pros doing the announcing always knew who he was. Buddy Hall seemed to particularly be fond of him and said he nick name in a great voice.
