Joe Tucker's break cue gizmo

At the Joss Tour stop this weekend Joe Tucker had a gizmo on his break cue I've never seen before. On the shaft of the cue he had a plastic tube that he held in his bridge hand and stroked the cue through it. Has anyone seen other players use a device like that, and what is the point? Also, does anyone know if Tucker gives lessons?

Just guessing ...

But I would say it is an experimental device being
tested as to whether control is better with it off
the break, and therefore, consistency of break.

Either that, or Earl is rubbing off on other players...lol

I played a guy in Phoenix in the 70s they called $Jack. He played with a dollar bill wrapped around his shaft. Said it made the cue slide better and he didn't have to worry about sweat. Was this "Tube" thin enough to wrap your fingers around it?

I seen a local around here using a black plastic tubes on his break cue. It was thin enough to get his finger around, probably a half inch diameter...Judging from how worn it was, he musta been using it a while...

Hey MOPARORNOCAR,I played a guy in Ohio that used a napkin the same way,not only for breaking, but the whole set. His reasoning was the same as $Jack.

He used to and I assume he still does. He posts here and will probably see your post, if not send him a PM.

He uses that tube in his break video on his website www.joetucker.net Go to Previews and check the racking secrets videos.

I've seen the tubes available somewhere, can't remember where. It is partly elastic it seems and allows the cue to slide quite easily.

The reason Joe stated in his video, for using it, was that it allows him to draw the cue back past his loop bridge, so he gets a longer swing without losing the stability and accuracy that one can expect when lengthening their bridge distance. Makes sense to me.

Joe has a few of his racking secrets videos on his website http://www.joetucker.net.

In one of them he briefly describes this accessory. It's basically an elastic/nylon (not sure exactly) tube that fits around his shaft. Instead of using a glove he simply holds the tube with a closed bridge and it reduces friction. I think he even plugs the maker of the device, but I haven't watched it in a while so don't quote me.

I guess it's not as much of a problem with his shooting cue.

Funny that we posted the same reply simultaneously.

Yours is more informative though (although you got the url wrong) - keep up the good work Colenso!

"The Perfector"

I re-watched Joe's video. It's called "The Perfector" - an Interwoven Sleeve for the cue:

Thanks Salty;)
I couldn't help but check the link and later correct it.

What's that they say about great minds?

Wow thanks for the information. Tucker seems fond of gizmos and definitely has his own style; he was wearing an mp3 player for all of his matches and occasionally mouthing the words to whatever he was listening to. He also has the most perfect alignment I've ever seen, better then some snooker players.

Now if he would just stick legs on it like my personal gizmo, that thing would be very deadly for wheelchair players like myself ;)

I wonder if I could just line my own device with it...

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
