Johnny Archer Bobbing and Plucking???

I'm convinced Parica has the very best rhythm in all of pooldom... I know this is about Archer, but... What do you guys say?

Oh yeah, my other Aussie buddy Emile Riera knocked out Earl in the same tourney 13-10. Despite having played little 9-ball previously. With Earl sharking like a thief all through the match.

The biggest tourney of their lives and they couldn't rise to the occassion against newbies.

I've watched Johnny Archer play in several matches on video. He knows the game well and breaks very well, but Johl on his worst day is a much finer cueist.

Colin you are slowly but surely clawing your way up the ladder as this board's biggest douchebag.

It could only be for one reason and one reason only....he had an aiming system!! Now, when are you going to get more advanced and start shooting like a pro instead of a hack with a bottom of the barrel basic way of aligning shots?? :p :D (hell...for that matter...when are you going to get off of the blackboard and wei table and go on a REAL pool table?)
I played a dozen or so games of 8-ball last night. The 2nd day in a row
Don't worry about my aiming. I stare at the balls so hard I almost move them. My choice of CB path though is intuitive. The line I use as my reference in the line the OB should take. Anyway, best not threadjack my own thread with more aiming nonsense

Colin, I agree with you. If you watch the Johnny of old, he was a killer. When I last watched him, he was in that same form.... BUT, maybe he is back to what I would describe as 'paranoid'. Any 'off' sound in the crowd sends him up, then back down, up, then back down. Watch him on tape.. in the old days, he set up, maybe made an adjustment, and bam- center pocket. Now you might watch him, and he gets up off his break about 6-8 times before he is in good position. HE IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE TO WATCH. But, I don't like watching him when he has tourette' syndrome- and moves all over the place. He even admitted to changing his pace to a faster one, and he had a huge streak of wins to his credit for that. About the table picking, I do that myself too.. and it lends itself to good rythym, and feeling like the table is yours. I don't do it anywhere near the amount that Johnny does, and he does do it a lot. I like watching people like Sigel, who is probably jittery as hell inside, but on the outside laugh it up. Watch his match with Zuglan. He is chewing gum, and is getting down on the toughest shot of the match, the shot after the break. Someone in the crowd is moving, or passing by. He gets down, ready to shoot, and gets up. He motions them to go ahead and keep moving. All the while he is still focused, and he just gets back down to shoot, no big deal. When you start to get crazy quirks, it's probably time to cut them out of the routine if they are not helpful.

Hi John,
This was basically what I was getting at with this thread. That his play at time seems paranoid, lacking focus and confidence. It seems hard to imagine he always played like this.

I've got quite a way to climb before I reach you.

You're becoming a specialist at name calling and misrepresenting what people say. You also run away from threads when you are confronted with information that contradicts your assertions. And you get your nickers in a knot if someone dares to suggest one of your favorite heroes is not superhuman.

To get personal here, my bet is that you are a mediocre player. I guess I could spot you 4 games in a race to 7 at 8-ball and beat you most the time. What are your achievements in the game? How many table hours do you have? I guess I have 8,000 hours plus.

Now you got me all grumpy you nagging little nitwit  :D

We all have our quirks, that's for sure, and as you've noted, this is one of Johnny's. Still, there's absolutely no way that picking up these seemingly non-existent specs off the felt is hurting his ability to execute.

I recall being in Queens, NY, one time, playing in a handicap event, and my opponent was doing this very same thing, meticulously picking up tiny specs of lint off the felt that I couldn't even see. It occurred during one of the soundest beatings I've ever taken over the glorious green felt. The game was three cushion billiards, and my opponent was none other than the legendary Sang Lee. In the handciap format, all I needed was 23 before Sang Lee made 80, but on that occasion he ripped me to shreds by 80 - 11.

I think you're reaching a little if you conclude that this evidences play without passion. To me, Colin, it's just a quirky habit that some players have.

Talk, talk, talk. That's all you do is run your mouth. I'm not the only one that notices that. Did you ever stop to think that you talk a little too much shit? I'm sure you remember your brilliant notion that Efren isn't a shotmaker.

I think YOU are a mediocre player with a big mouth. At least I don't go trashing so many pros like you love to. Yet you would probably chicken out to take the 5-ball from Archer or Efren.

I will take your offer of 4 games to 7 in 8-ball, fly your ass out here to California and I guarantee people will be jumping over one another to sidebet against you.

In 2004 I won the Northridge Championship IV (9-ball) $2,000 added event. I am rated an A+ at the local pool tournaments and have won it 7 times in the last 4 months. There are other people on this website who know me and can verify that.

But you know what? I don't give a shit whether you can play a lick or not. The difference between me and you is this: I am here to learn, and you are not. You think you know everything. I soak up every bit of information and am always looking for ways to improve. It doesn't seem like you are looking to improve, it seems like you are looking for ways to spew your jealousy of players like Archer, Efren, etc. Jealousy because they are somebodies, and you are a pathetic, washed up NOBODY. You have no appreciation for a good shot that somebody makes, you love to downplay everything and tell everyone that you can do it just as good. You couldn't even appreciate it when TheOne stomped you into the felt. You had to give everyone an excuse that you hadn't been playing much (even though you post everyday) and that you were stuck with a housecue. You made a thread announcing that, because you wanted to protect your ego before TheOne told anyone that he beat you in a tournament. Newsflash dipshit: TheOne is somebody and you are a nobody, as if any different outcome was to be expected.

Sure, I talk too much at times. I've got my faults, but I also believe I am here to learn and offer ideas. I don't think those who have read my posts here over 3 years would have the impression that I'm out to belittle the pros. But I like to critique and analyze their games as a tool to learn.

Anyway, you spanked me good. Time to move on now.

Interesting story sjm.
Maybe these quirks don't effect his game as I imagined. But I do recall reading that in his prime, and when he found form last year he was playing faster with less of the quirks. Looks to me like he needs to relax a bit and enjoy it a bit more.

If you had just said that you like to critique I wouldn't have went off. It sounded to me like you were trying to intentionally insult Archer. After all he has accomplished I felt he deserved a little more respect. I think I was a little too rash, my apologies.

In all fairness, Bustamante did come away with the money when it was all over and done with.

Thats how I heard it also. After johnny ran the set out, I heard Busta doubled the bet. Makes sense though, at least you are'nt playing to break even.......G

Johnny is a nice guy who should go into the Hall of Fame someday so who freakin cares if he picks off some lint.

I don't care how good Colins' buddy is, go look on johnnyarcher.net at what he has accomplished. 7 times player of the year, world championships, 8 wins in 2003, might as well throw a 14.1 title in there as well with a 150 and out.

Superior cue action don't prove anything until you amass a record even remotely close to Archers. Who can even compete with his record other than legends like Buddy Hall, Sigel, Strickland, Varner, Reyes and old timers like Lassiter?

Anyone think Johnny shouldn't go into the Hall of Fame?

Thanks LastTwo...If we get to meet I'll be obliged to give you that 4 rack headstart race to 7. 2 sets for $50. I'm in trouble, but that'll teach me to shoot my mouth off. You can buy the humble pie for desert :D

Sure I was teasing JA a bit to press a few buttons, but I know he has achieved a great deal and can play some super 9-ball. It wasn't totally about teasing him, I'm curious about his mannerisms and how people think such habits affect our games.

Don't take me too seriously, I'm just picking up some bad habits at being an occassional smart ass comic, like my mentor DM :p :D

johnny used to be a good guy. now hes a cry baby. at VF he was down big to shannon daulton and was whining came back to win and he was still whining. and anyone who was at turning stone this year saw how he acted when he lost to dennis hatch. i dont know what happened to him.

Maybe family responsibilites and getting whined and bitched at in the home. You gotta take it out and vent somewhere. Marriage and children ain't cheap, you can't afford to finish out of the money.
