In 1972, there was an Eight Ball division in place of Straight Pool and Shorty won it.

I think he's referring to the 1993 L.A. Open. Jay can tell you about it and how well Mark Tadd was playing then.

Mark lost in the One Pocket finals to Steve Cook, who won $10,000. Steve and his backer Bill Amadeo left town with the money immediately and returned to Florida. Mark won $6,000 for second. He then won the 9-Ball over a full field of 128, players (a very strong field!). That was good for ten grand. And last he won the Bank Pool over another strong field of 44 hard core Bankers. That was good for another five thousand and Mark picked up five thousand more as the All Around champion. Total winnings - $26,000 in 1993, all paid in cash by yours truly. Total prize money paid was $160,000! It was a great tournament and we had crowds every day and some good sponsorship (Mark Griffin big time!). I still had to go in my pocket for about 25K to pay everybody off.

Mark sent me a message the other day. He’s good!. I haven’t heard from him in a long time and he popped up. I’ve seen Mark play perfect pool more than once.
