Just bought a radial pin Rhino CF shaft and very happy with it overall but the joint doesn't fit totally flush on all butt surfaces, not horrible but totally noticeable, both on a Black Pearl (Al Batista) and a Mac Cues custom, both are Phillipean custom cues. The butt/shaft joint fit with the stock maple shaft is good but with the Rhino you can feel a bit of overhang on one half and flush or slightly negative on one side. Some may be the shaft and some the butts, hard for me to tell with just calipers, might me concentricity issues with one or both components.
So is this common for using an aftermarket shaft on a butt it wasn't fit for? I'm a bit OCD with stuff like this, my Black Pearl has sterling silver rings that are ever so slightly proud since the silver sanded harder than the wood, probably .002" raised. The butt is more than this but probably .006"-.010" off in spots but hard to measure.
Do people get CF shafts custom fit/sanded to the butt before the butt is clear coated to ensure a good flush fit? Al Batista is building me a new burl/ebony cue and wondering if I should get another Rhino cue sent to him to sand flush before the cue is clear coated so I have both a maple and CF shaft that fits perfect.
My 5/16-14 Rhino fits my Tascarella and my Adam Balabushka perfectly at the joint. But those are the only two they perfectly fit. My 22mm diameter Rhino fits my Schuler cues perfectly as well. Schuler joints are 22mm after all.Just bought a radial pin Rhino CF shaft and very happy with it overall but the joint doesn't fit totally flush on all butt surfaces, not horrible but totally noticeable, both on a Black Pearl (Al Batista) and a Mac Cues custom, both are Phillipean custom cues. I have a shaft that plays really good for my style, and it’s 0.5mm (0.020”) dia. smaller than my Schuler. Playing-wise, it doesn’t matter. But I run my hand over that joint all the time, so it bugs me to no end. So trying to see if the maker will do a 22mm.Anyone saying that it doesn't matter - it does for me. Watch Fedor. You actually drag the cue across you chin?? I know players that get pretty fkn low but not actual contact.
just watched some and he addresses the cb really low but in his delivery his head is higher. he's not chin-on-cue on the forward stroke. not like some snooker players who are in actual contact for a long time. either way i'd be in phys. therapy if i tried that low style.Watch Fedor.

not when he goes forward. just watched a bunch of shots. He rubs his chin on the cue. He puts powder on his chin to deal with the friction.
Mostly during aiming.not when he goes forward. just watched a bunch of shots.
I’m the same way, on chin while aligning/feathering, slightly off for delivery. A mismatched joint, like my Rhino that’s the perfect diameter for my Cuetec Truewood but drilled slightly off-center so one side is a touch high, is bothersome on the chin.not when he goes forward. just watched a bunch of shots.
exactly what i noticed. super low when aiming/lining-up but not as low on delivery.
I shoot like this. I have a beard to help with lubrication. Sometimes I get a little dent in the beard from the cue. I also have a little lip where my OB Fusion meets my Schmelke butt. I like it, reminds me to stay down on the shot. You actually drag the cue across you chin?? I know players that get pretty fkn low but not actual contact.
I do. I used to play snooker back in Scotland and you are taught to use it as a point of contact. You actually drag the cue across you chin?? I know players that get pretty fkn low but not actual contact.
Exactly!Unless you're using same brand shaft/butt good luck finding exact flush match-up.
I do sometimes. I noticed that Fedor even chalks his chinYou actually drag the cue across you chin?? I know players that get pretty fkn low but not actual contact.
I don't think it is the manufacturing tolerances at rhino, moreso that the original cue/ shaft were fitted as a unit and one oiece is now gone.It is one of the cheaper brands of CF shafts. I wouldn't expect perfection.
A cut chin learns best?!Anyone saying that it doesn't matter - it does for me. I like to get my chin on the cue
