Joint pin lube

Can anyone tell me what to use to quiet my joint when unscrewing the butt and shafts. I recently acquired a Capone that has his signature flat faced radial joint. The problem is that it squeals rather loudly when I unscrew the shafts. :yikes: Very annoying. I want to make sure that I use something that won't make the wood swell. Any suggestions. Thanks, Micah.

I always use a little wax on the threads. I have also heard of people using dish soap. I don't know if it makes the wood swell but it makes it easier to screw and un screw.

lubricate threads

The wood threads in the shaft expand.
I use Q Wax from Muellers. (www.poolndarts.com)
It is specifically formulated with Carnauba Wax.
I guess any wax would work.

Just put some on a rag & apply to the pin.
Screw cue together & unscrew.
Repeat process.
wipe off excess wax on pin.

Your cue should go together & apart smoothly,
with no squeaking.

It works great on the shaft too, protects the shaft from
dirt from table cloth & dirt from your bridge hand.

Allways wipe off the tip of the shaft before you put it
in your tube case(keeps the insides of your case clean
& keeps your shaft clean)

later,
sax

Occasionally we will have a customer call because they are having problems putting one of our cue shafts on there cue. Most commonly, it is the Radial pin, but sometimes it can be the 5/16x14 inserted cue shafts.

We ask them to lubricate the threads with a paste wax and this always works. We recommend using a paste floor wax, but most any wax will work.
