Ask ten players or builders and you're gonna get ten different answers. It doesn't matter really. For wood-to-wood big pin joints the 3/8x10modified is awfully good. I've owned cues with just about every joint-pin out there. Couldn't say one was better than the other for good lock-up. I do think that the Uniloc is a complete gimmick for impatient tweakers who don't have the patience to screw on/off a shaft. ;)

This is like asking a large group what is their favorite flavor of ice cream?

I would say (most) mainstream joints are fine. Uncommon ones are just a pain to deal with when fitting non-factory shafts. My first cue, a basic schmelke sneaky had the zero feel and pain in the ass brass joint (would never buy another again).
 
there is so many variables in a cue besides the joint that will affect how the cue feel, focusing on just one is irrelevant, even if you'll try to make two identical cues with all the same specs and just different joint it will still not be the same as two pieces of wood are not the same.
Some claim that this or that joint will feel more like a one piece cue and I say BS! A. non will feel like that, and B. one piece cue will feel like crap if you are using a two piece cue for a decent period of time.
Bottom line is that we as human get used to things really fast so it doesn't mater what joint, what wood, what color is the cue and so on if you give the cue enough time to study it and get used to it. As long as the cue screws tight, you are golden.
 
For custom cues I like to use the joint system that the particular cue maker I'm using favors
Most makers use one specific pin but anybody can do any joint or pin

Basically the same thing with production cues
Predators unilock or radial
Meucci 5/16-18 or 3/8-10
Etc
I would pick the brand and use their standard joint
Uniloc or quick release would be my last choice

I like 3/8 10 or the modified version. I dislike any joint that goes into a brass insert. I just don't think they feel as nice to play with. A big joint going into wood or phenolic feels better to me.

I also really like the G10 pins, though I currently don't have any cues with them.

Some makers make an ivory sleeve that threads onto the butt and you can see the wood looking inside the joint, like a steel joint. The H style is just that. When you look down the joint it is ivory on the inside. Mottey, Gus, I believe Ernie, and I am sure many more do this type of joint.

I like the 3/8 modified as well as the uni loc , especially when my arthritis is acting up the quicker I can get my cue together the better ha ha .

As for which is the best ? That's a Ford Chevy or Dodge type of question it's the one you have the most confidence in playing with is the best .
