I'm thinking about ordering a sneaky from Josey. I like a stiff hit similar to a Schon so I was wondering if you have to get a SS joint from Josey to get this effect or will one of his regular joints work as well. I'm getting a sneaky pete cause I just want a good solid playing cue and don't really need the fancy inlays and such and have heard really great things about his cues. Thanks in advance.

no need to get a ss joint. josey cues are a stiff hitting cue with his regular joint. i have owned 4 joseys and love the hit. josey is my everyday playing cue.
I agree...forget the steel joint. You'll get a stiff hit with a Josey, but with excellent "feedback" or "feel" that your Schon doesn't deliver.
I've got one of his classic styled cues with points...love it!
One thing I kind of wish I'd done is have one shaft normal & the other one of his "timeless" shafts...just to see what the "timeless" shaft is like.

Keith primarily uses a wood/wood phenolic Radial pinned joint in his cues. To the best of my knowledge, the only SS joint he does offer is a 3/4" thin-walled sleeved. The difference, IMHO, does not make an already stiff playing cue stiffer, but rather 'crisps' the hit just enough....for me anyways. I have played with both joint types, and you can't wrong with either...but his normal joints are his bread and butter....and they work.
Keith's cues are known for being stiff, consistent players. His combination of butt and shaft tapers, along with the bigger Radial pin is the secret to his reputation for making some darn sporty players.
I can tell you that Keith and Sherri are really super to work with, and offer great customer service. He wants to do all he possibly can to make the customer happy with their cue. Give them a call and discuss that you have been playing with a Schon and what you would like from a cue. (800)-514-CUES It's easiest to catch them in the shop on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and sometimes Saturdays. He also usually has a few completed cues (sneaky pete type and plain janes) available in the shop.
I will tell you this....I am on my 2nd Josey now. I had originally purchased a beautiful ebony into BEM fancy 'pete' from him about 4-5 years ago now. Was a super player. Picked up another cue, and stupidly sold that one...one of those 'regrets'. The one I have now would have to be pried from my cold, dead hands....it plays for me just that good!

The Timeless Timber™ shafts make an already stiff playing cue even stiffer, with low deflection. It's as close as I have come to replicating the overall 'feel' of a one piece cue. The entire cue 'talks'. :thumbup:

I had Keith make my very first custom cue.....at least the first one I personally had made. He and his wife were a pleasure to deal with the entire time. I was very pleased with the cue and it had a nice solid hit.

I have a timeless timber shaft arriving soon. I, as well, am interested to see how it compares with his regular hard rock maple one.
I must agree with this statement. I just received a Josey bocote into curly/birdseye maple sneaky pete. Dollar for dollar this is one of the finest cues I've ever played with. I ordered this cue based upon a review I read by Lisa and I'm very happy to have purchased this cue.
The taper and balance are perfect. The fit and finish have exceeded my expectation.
Keith and Sherri are a pleasure to deal with.

Very cool, Chris! Bocote and maple make for a nice playing cue. Keith does get some nice pieces of bocote. Glad that my reviews helped, and equally glad that you are happy with the cue. Keith has a clue as to what makes for a great playing cue. I will live in my car before I think about selling mine.
