Finally something I can add too!
First off joint number to Dan to square away the year.
Second the first COM cues were J-18 models and the newer ones are N-7's. I believe Joss switched the model number in the early 90's.
Chopdoc is right about the joints as far as interchangeability. 5/16-14 piloted shafts will work. Ld shafts of any make with same joint will work, I myself use a BDCues SS360 shaft on mine
Real Joss shafts shoot just as good. I happened to pick up 2 with my N-7 and like them just as much as my SS360 tho they are thicker. Not bad, just different as my SS360 is a 12.5mm.
Now to comparisons... My N-7 is a newer model and my ring around the butt where the Joss name is is not all white. It is a white ring in ebony with the Joss name. Joss has been running them this way for at least 5 years that I know of which puts some age on your cue, how old? Not a J-18, but still older none the less.
Any billiard retailer can get you a Joss shaft to the tune of about a buck and half shipped. An ld shaft to fit will be around the same and higher depending on who made it.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I've been researching this cue for months and have been given great info from collectors, azbers and Joss themselves
