I have a seventies JOSS, maybe a Diamond Catalog cue.
The bumper screw in it has a slotted head and I was under the impression it should be a cap screw. My intention was to put the right screw in it so I went about that today. The thing is, I thought it was supposed to be an 8-32 screw and the one in mine turned out to be a 10-32.
I picked up a bolt for it and the threads were slightly too tight. Not wanting to force it I just lightly sanded the bolt threads and it went right in no problem, but it made me suspicious that somebody might have opened the hole up with a tap for the larger screw at some point. I have owned the cue since 1985 by the way and it is the first time that I addressed this issue in all these years.
I had a reason beyond simply feeling it was the wrong head type, the screw that was in there was too long, it bottomed before engaging the washer inside the bumper. I let it go all this time because the bumper was so snug it really didn't matter, it wasn't loose. But I thought to make it right now.
If you need pictures of the weight bolt I can get them, but I am confident it is original as it looks like all the others I have seen. It is steel by the way.
If you need pics of the screw that was in there I can get those too, but remember it was too long so I am 100% sure it was not only not original but also the wrong screw at least in length if nothing else.
The screw I put in is a 10-32x1/2" cap screw from Crown Bolt, they only had them in stainless on the shelf locally so that's what I got.
